I HAVE A 30GAL REEF TANK AND IT'S NOT PREDRILLED FOR AN OVER FLOW(TO MUCH STUFF IN THERE TO TAKE OUT TO GET IT DONE) WHAT'S A GOOD SUMP PACKAGE FOR MY TANK THAT WILL DO TO JOB AND ALOW ME TO PUT THE HEATER AND SKIMMER IN IT.

IS THERE WAYS TO MAKE ONE MY SELF OR CAN I BUY TANK SPECIFIC SUMPS, AND IS IT BENEFICAL TO EVEN DO THAT RIGHT NOW?.

Measure the space in the stand under your tank - look up aquarium sizes and find one that will fit. Buy and overflow to hang on the back of your tank and a return pump to put in your sump.

Sump = Always a good idea.

Take a look in the DIY forum for plans to add a refugium to your sump to grow macro-algae and pods in.

cdangelo i agree

get something like a CPR overflow, measure the max amount of space for a sump (dont forget to account for the skimmer etc...), buy a cheap tank..get glass baffles cut etc...etc...etc...

look at melvs site for some more detailed information on DIY sumps

I heard that an overflow can be a problem in the event of a power outtage as too much water can flow into the sump and cause an overflow. Is this something that can easily happen? If so, would it be better to drill the back of the tank and create an overflow for it?

I have had u tub and they are a pain. Never sure if you can trust it when power goes out. I drilled my current tank. Love the peace of mind. Cost was about the same too.

a u tube that is setup properly should never lose siphon during a power outage. it works the same way as one of those 5 gallon water containers you see at many offices. how come those don't just spill all over the floor even though they're upside down? same concept.

My brother came home to his tank overflowing water on the floor from his u tub a couple months ago. The aqua-lifter was clogged so it didn't keep syphon right he said?

im tryin to set up a sump as well. i just get worried abou those overflow boxes

Maybe some better made overflow boxes are OK? Mine was scary, tricky to get it going... Someone needing to go this way. I would say, check post on successful models.
