Adding new sump! Have a couple questions.

Im planning on adding a new sump. I currently have a 72 gallon bowfront tank and the way my stand is setup i have to stay within strict dimensions as far as my filtration system goes. My current filtration setup is with a wet/dry filter (yes, the bioballs are out) I run my carbon where the bioballs used to be. I have a corralife skimmer(which overflows all the time) hanging on the side of the sump. I was wonder first if i should get a new sump. If so should i get one with a fuge without running a protein skimmer, or get one with just a sump and a filter sock and run a new type of skimmer that will sit in the sump in case of an overflow? Sorry for being so lengthy. If you had to choose , which one would you go with?

One with a skimmer. In such a confined space, the skimmer IMO will be of more benefit than a small fuge.

Thats what i was thinking as well Hop. Another question is that when i bought my tank it was predrilled and set up with the nozzles and hose part that fits the wet/dry filter. How will i make it fit inton a nozzle for a filter sock? Do the make certain adapters?

Do you think this is a good sump and a good price?

Sorry, the pain killers knocked me out for a few hours

It's a good price, but it's really just an acrylic box. If you have any DIY skills, you could grab a glass tank that fits in your stand and cut or have glass cut for baffles and come in under $50. Plus it would be a better unit.

What are the demensions for a sump to sit under your tank?

Sounds like a standard 20 gallon tank would fit perfect! I have one that I put together for my temporary 125 set up. This is an ugly pic of it, but I have less than $40 into it. I just put 3 baffles in it spaced 1" a part. The return section was just big enough for my return pump and the skimmer section is big enough for a 8" diameter euro reef. I added a top off using things I had lying around. Adding filter socks would be very easy. In fact I think marine depot sells little acrylic adapters that would clamp on the side of the sump.

This way save you could then spend $100 elsewhere

ok sounds great. Do you recommend the euro reef skimmer? Im looking to get a new one. Also, if i want an automatic top off, how long can the ro/di water sit in the bucket under the tank without going bad?

Well I got that ER skimmer for cheap. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely use a different one. This was the most underpowered skimmer ER ever made Still a great brand of skimmer though. Maybe the RS100 would be perfect for your application. But I would look into the tunze line, octopus and others. I really like the Geo and H&S NWs, but skimmers are such a debate right now

As far as the top off goes, I have a 5 gallon bucket that feeds a float switch. I keep it covered and it should be able to go weeks without a problem. But one bucket lasts me six days, so I don't worry about it.
