Messy Tank
Hello all! Newb here so I'll start off with the basics
55 Gallon Aquarium Penguin 350 Filter 2 400 MaxiJets 1 900 M axiJet 3-4" substrate (CC and LS Mix) 7lbs LR "Lots" of Base Rock 5 Hermit Crabs 3 Turbo Snails 1 Yellow Tail Damsel I just finished the cycle 2 days ago and last night acclimated the damsel. Anyway.. my question being... my water is a nightmare! I have zillions of microbubbles, turbo poop and who knows what else floating around in there! I tried to read up on it all and moved my Powerheads down a tad so they aren't facing the surface, I replaced the pads in my filter and I still have so many floaties I think it distracts from the DT. Now granted, if you are standing 3ft back you can't see them but I'm a "close watcher" and want to get rid of them! Any suggestions? Question #2... Turbo droppings... my tank substrate is covered in turbo poop and it just blows from one end of my tank to the other, sometimes gathering in spots. Can I python those out?? |

Can you tell where the microbubbles are coming from? Make sure the MJ's aren't placed to close to the surface or they can draw air in through the top if you don't have the hole plugged where the optional airline is connected.
You'll learn that as the owner of reef tank you'll always have "floaties" in the water column. In a way it's a good thing cuz this will keep detritus and other stuff from collecting on the rocks. Do you run a sump/skimmer or is it just all HOB filters? My skimmer does a good job of removing the big stuff that's floating in my tank.

The bubbles are coming from the Filter, no doubts. I have the air holes on the MaxiJet's blocked off and they are well below the surface.
I don't have a skimmer, just the filter. I guess I can live with floaties as long as it won't upset the fish... I read somewhere that microbubbles can stress the fish and up the chance of disease and such. |

I'm thinking it is that hang on the back Bio-wheel thing. The rest is just blowing it around.
