How to Quiet a Pump

I have a Gen-X GX6000 that hums pretty loud. Does anyone have any tips to quiet it down?

You can try styrofoam or a mouse pad underneath to dampen vibration. Also if you used rigid PVC instead of flexible or vinly tubing that could add to the noise.

As far as modding the pump itself, try the DIY forum

Yeah, I'm already using flex line. Never thought of a mouse pad... I was going to buy some neoprene but the mouse pad is a great idea. What about wrapping the pump in a noise-absorbing food safe insulation?

I surely am not an expert on pumps, but I would not wrap anything around a pump. Overheating!

I put a 3/4" thick pcs of foam rubber under mine. It totally eliminated the noise. I also have flex tubing between the PVC that goes to and from and the pump. My skimmer makes more noise now.

I have a Mag 9.5 and I just add three lines of aquarium sealant about a 1/4 inch high,3/8 inch wide along the bottom and let it dry. Have solid PVC and it is very quiet.

Unplug it! Really I couldn't get my Iwaki quiet enought for the living room (even removed fan) so I ordered a posiedon pump. They are suppose to be super quiet, under 30db. Really if you want less noise order a new pump. I was torn between the Ehiem 1262 and Posiedon. I plan on running penductors so I went with the posiedon, if you don't plan on running penductors I would get the eheim.
