Alright Step 2. Picking out a tank ^__^

Okay, so last time I was trying to figure out what I should do during breaks... well, it turns out that I'll likely be staying at school during break working on research w/ a prof, so looks like the problem is fixed afterall ^__^

Anyway, the next step is to figure out what tank to get.

Using these requirements:
1. Material: Acrylic
2. Cost: < $50
3. Size: at least 5g

... I came up with these aquariums:
o Eclipse System 6 Aquarium set by Marineland (Prices online are roughly $48... but shipping prices are unknown... I'm doing research as I type ^__- )
o Eclipse Hexagon 5 Aquarium by Marineland ($30 at PetCo and Wallmart)

I sorta like the first choice better, but the second one is quite cheap I must say.

Ok enough of what t3h nubsauce says. What do you guys say?

Well what is your reason for that? I typically prefer acrylic tanks -- they do look nicer, and often have a "1-piece" feel to them.

its 8 dollars and much easier to light and add filters. you will have to remove the hood on the marineland and it will not look to good

I second shag. Screw acrylic, especially on a tank that small. I scratched my eclipse tank with an acrylic safe pad trying to clean it, go figure. Im not sure if the braces are necessary on a tank that small but mine had em and they made putting anything in or taking anything out a total pain in the butt!! Hex tanks are also a pain for salt water; hard to clean the glass and low surface area for gas exchange, plus bad dimensions for aquascaping. Not to mention the eclipse tanks arent really set up for saltwater to begin with. (why pay extra for a hood that uses subpar lighting and fw filtration?) You could probably get a 29 or 30 AGA for around $50 if you got a deal or found one used. I wanna say they are in the $60s new.

check out the Nanocubes comes with the lights also, you can get a 12 gallon for $119.00 by the time you upgraded the lights and stuff on the marineland it would probably end up costing more

Aren't like nanocubes bad because they break unexpectedly? Or is that just that one batch?

I agree with the 10 gallon tank glass tank. They are really cheap, plus with the larger volume of water it is probably easier to keep it stabalized.

Why will I have to remove the hood?

Alrighty. Plan:

AGA 5.5g, $10
20" 28W 50/50 Coralife Aqualight + Adjustable Legs + S&H, $59.70
------------
$69.70

Does that lighting sound good enough?
