Grossest thing you've done while reefing

So tonight I got some Mysis out in a cup to dethaw so I could feed all the fishies. Well I had a Pepsi one hand and my Mysis cup in the other. I was looking at my planted tank and took a drink from the Mysis cup. Lets just say that it doesn't taste all that great and I immedeatly spit it back into the cup. For some reason my Pepsi doesn't taste right now though.
So how bout you whats your grossest moment?

Trying to start a U tube siphon between sump and refugium---I should know how to do this, after years assisting a bio major roomie with pipettes in the lab---but oh, no, I swallow some.

I recall there was an urban legend about a biochem major who swallowed some biological toxin in toxicology, a little of which could be fatal, and survived by downing a significant amount of Scotch.

Not that I believe it, but it helped the taste.

Mine was also a siphoning incident that happened recently. A friends tank had a melt down. Dead Coral everywhere. The dead coral was removed but the water stunk. I tried to be very careful when I started the siphon but still got a decent swallow. I didn't feel right after that for the rest of the day and had some stomach cramps, but as you can tell I am still here.

Siphon-starting seems to be an endless source of yucky stuff. I have to restart the siphon on my CPR when my return pump is off for more than a minute or two, and while I've never ingested anything I've spit out some stuff that makes me say to myself, "OK, that can't be good for me." Rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse... with something 100-proof...

Me, I use the both ends of the hose in the tank with two thumbs method, sorry I hate the taste of salt water, used to spend days in the ocean as a kid.

My grossest was when I got stung by a bristle worm and you could see the bristles in my arm. I did the white vinegar thing and it worked, but I had some type of reaction and had a 5" long raised boo boo on my arm.

Equally gross IMO is when I decided to remove all the bristleworms from my tank, ya this is chronological, so I removed the rock and soaked it in 1.040 water for 15 minutes with a powerhead going. All the worms were on the bottom of the container, easily over a 100. One over 4' yes ' long. That smell will make you puke.

Another gross story is from a guy on another forum who seems to have sucked in some hydroids while starting his syphon. His fae swelled up and he had stings all over his mouth and tongue. I looked but I don't have the picture anymore, although I'll never forget what it looked like. just cuz it wasn't me!

The grossest thing I have ran into so far is the smell of a large rotting finger leather.
I was doing a tank move and I set up a couple of temporary holding tanks for my corals and fish. I had one tank setup just for my basketball sized finger leather. Unfortunately I had to keep it in the tank for a couple of days, and for some unknown reason, it melted and started to rot.
It was hard to keep my lunch down when I was in the same room as that tank, let alone when I had to clean that tank out. Horrible smell..

Smelling a dead snail comes in second place though

Wow...this is all pretty interesting because I have no sense of smell whatever (sinus problems). I could hold a rotting snail up to my nose and not smell anything at all.

I wonder if I knew what they smelled like, I would be more motivated to pull overturned snails out of my tank. I pretty much just leave them in there to decay, figuring that some crab will eat it. Is that bad?

I'd have to say removing the rotting cocktail shrimp after letting it sit there for the first 2 weeks of the cycle.

It was 2x's the size..and was the worst thing I'd ever smelled. Then I made the mistake of putting it in the kitchen trash can (had a lid on it) thinking it was ok because I triple bagged the sucker, and stunk up the whole apt.

I think next time I cycle a tank, I'll just pee in it.

Wow Scchase, that is really gross! I mean, yuk, you actually took a gulp of pepsi????
I think mine would have to be removing a nasty, slimy, dead but large carpet anemone!

A dying monti has a rather distinct smell, but a snail is plain worse. My main other is a dvm and some of the things she has to deal with doing to both living and dead creatures far surpasses any grossness reefing hands out.
