my 15g sump

Does this look pretty good?? My first one i've ever made, the fuge came out pretty small, will end up to be around 2.5gallons. Will that be good enough for a chaeto with probably a 2inch sand bed?? Only space i had left since my skimmer area and return area hogged up all the room

Some pics...

Looks great! Which side will be the fuge side?

the middle section, will put some eggrate between the fuge and return area so the chaeto will stay put somewhat

I am assuming that the angle piece is for where your inflow from the tank will go? If so, I might suggest lowering the top of it just a bit, just in case those slots get clogged with something. Not a huge deal, but better to be safe than sorry.

But, I have to say that looks really good, better than the 3 I've made.

yep thats the inflow, it would have been lower if i didn't mess up on measuring it . i took it to someplace to get cut so what i did was drill the top 2 corners so it would fit. I was thinking of drilling some more holes towards the top just in case the holes on the bottom get clogged. I can't believe how good those slots came out though using a large drill bit and a drill press.

So you guys think the fuge is good enough?? thanks for the replies guys

LOL I understand about measuring wrong all to well. Lucky for me I made my baffles out of acrylic and was able to re-cut them. Yea, I think making some hole on the top would be a good idea. Those slots do come out really well.

Sure, a bigger fuge would be better, but I still think it will work. The fuge I have with my 20H sump ( for my 58gal ) seems to be working out well. Tons of pods and mysid (sp) shrimp in there. And my mandarin is fat. Here is an old picture of the sump.

The lighting is 2 18 Watt SunPaq Dual Daylight 6700°K/10000°K.

LOL The square of electrical tape is where I like the water level to be when I have other people watching my tank. I drip Kalk but sometimes I am out of town longer than the reservoir will last so it gives them an idea of how much to freshwater to pour in there.

OK, I'm new here so I may be totally wrong... shouldn't the buble trap be the last thing befor going into the return area, and also why is the last divider so low? wouldn't higher have given a little more volume for the fuge?

just trying to learn things by asking...

from my knowledge and I am no expert but from what I know chaeto is a macro algae that is used to help control your micro algae. There may also be other benefits but I am not sure what they are

Well the last divider is so low so that return pump area will have more water. It is sharing the fuge's section of water. The divider is there and is low to prevent sand from getting sucked up into the return pump. I am also going to add an eggcrate divider on top of that divider.
Not sure if the bubble trap should be last or first, i just based my design by looking at like melevsreef.com and other pics of sumps and this is what i came up with.

Chaeto is macro algae, its short for a longer word i think chaetomorpha. It's benefits helps reduce nitrates and promotes pod growth i think.

That electrical tape thing's a pretty good idea, i'll probably just draw a line w/ permanent marker or something.
