Koralia reviews please
They have been out for a while now, so what is your opinion on this Powerhead? Looking at purchasing a couple of 4's.

Good: Awesome flow, very quiet (except on restart), super lower power.
Bad: BIG! It looks like a mini blimp in my 70g.

Entropy, Wow talk about a fast response. I guess they will look like a mini blimp in my 55. They will be on 24/7 on opposite sides, one slightly higher than the other, with the flow crashing into eachother. What size are you using?

K4. Just one is enough IMO, but I might add one later. I am going all Zoo's so I don't need 50x turn over like the SPS nuts. I am running a Rio2100 for return (maybe 200-300gph after head loss), and the K4, so about 20x turnover. I won the pump in a club raffle so it was that much sweeter. I think your plan will work very well and should ensure no dead spots in the tank. My tank is a foot less in length and basically just has rock work in the center so the flow is excellent and gets everywhere.
I forgot to add that the K4 also hasn't added any noticable heat to the tank.

Cool, I also have rock work only in the center, minimal aquascape letting room for my SPS to grow. Yes I am an SPS nut, looking for the 50x flow, w/o the cost of Tunze. Thanks Mile.

Using it in my 50 gal. right now. Very quiet and strong flow at low wattage. I like it.

i have a k4 and a tunze nano stream in my 90gal. The tunze is a lot better pump. You can place it closer to the water surface. It is also ALOT smaller and pushes the same amount of water with a simple mod.
They both cost about the same. |

Love my #4s. The #1 is a little weak in my 15G though. I got rid of all my Seios, 1100, 820 and 620 and am much happier with less heat and lower wattage.

I will give the Tunze the nod on one aspect: propeller color. I have no idea what Hydor was thinking with the orange prop?!?!?

Using 4 #4's in my 90, love the wide flow. No problems with them.

Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6025 Our Price: $61.84 KORALIA 4 In Stock 1+ $59.99 The 6025 can be easily modded to match the flow of k4. All you need is a knife to do it. Its a better pump because it has teh better design. Like i said i use bothof these pumps in my 90gal tank. |

I haven't seen the modded 6025, so I will have to take your word on it. I got my K4 free in a raffle so it is a moot point, but I will have to read up on the mod.

Well I have 2 #4 in my 125 6feet long and I keep SPS and all are doing great. I don't know about the tunze but the K's are great. would recomend them. no heat either!!! I run 900W of metal halides alone in my system and no chiller in Florida. they are great I had the Seio's before and I had trouble keeping my temp under 83 now it is 80 all day.
love the K's good luck

Good thread! But from reading all of it I am still not convinced the Nano is a better pump or design. It was a Nano thread and the Koralia still got a lot of good press.
Doesn't help that the thread started out with the guy unhappy about the current performance and that his Nano had dropped way off before modding.

i put my two modded k4's in the back. i modded them by using a mj 1200 magnet with an octura prop stuck on there. the stock k4's already seem to push more than 1200gph (but that is just a guess)...with that in mind...the mj magnet along with the much more aggressive octura prop (mine has a heck of a time restarting due to the max amount of prop i left from trimming to get max flow) 'should' be moving more water. i am going to have to give a very rough guess of 'maybe' 2000gph.
the full blast modded 6025 produces close to 1200gph. pretty amazing what 5 minutes with a dremel can do. initially, i did not appreciate nor like the very wide flow pattern of the k4's. what i did was use a 1/2" piece of 2" abs and zip tie it to the opening of the k4's. this allowed me to 'focus' the wide stream down. thus... i prefer the modded k4's and the modded 6025's for different reasons now. i like the modded k4's because they put out more flow...thus, they get relegated to the back angle of the tanks to be hidden as much as possible. the modded 6025's get a more forward tank placement as they are smaller and thus appear less obtrusive. i love these two ph's because they come with their own magnet mount thus decreasing cost by needing to buy optional mounting magnets. modded koralia 4 has possibly equal (possibly more) flow to a tunze 6060 AND is a lot less bulky in appearance to me. with the 6060 magnet mount...the stock k4 is $113 less. throw on a $2.50 prop and a left over mj 1200 magnet (i have a ton of them from old broken mj 1200's)...and it becomes $110 less still. quite a no brainer for me. modded 6025? another no brainer for me.

Have you used a Kill a Watt meter to check the wattage draw? Hydor advertises 11 watts for the #4 but I have found both of mine draw 13 watts. I am curious to see what the modded ones do and if its worth the extra power usage versus adding an additional pump.

nice write up bergzy
Both pumps are great and that is why i have both of them in my tank! Nano are better when you want small size and easy placement. You can really put the water where you want it to go. It has a stream flow. Koralia has a really wide flow that sometime cause problems with coral. Koralia have ALOT better mounting system compared to the tunze. Tunze should really copy this design. Koralia also have a better starting system, it has a built in stopper that doesn't allow it to spin backward unlike the nano that will spin for a couple second in reverse. This could cause a sand storm in a small tank. One major problem with the Koralia is that you cannot place it close to the water surface. This is a big problem for me since i have a wavebox on my tank and have to place the Koralia about 3in from the water surface so it wont suck any air. The nano can be place about a 1' from the surface without sucking in air. |

Did I mention the orange prop?
Is anyone concerned that they are not grounded?
