how to stop the sting of a bristle worm???

I was cleaning some rocks and got stung buy a bristle worm.

Even though it isn't unbearable, it is a burning sensation that is just annoying

any tips on how to combat this feelings? Right now I just have a couple of bandaides on it pulled really tight to constrict my finger. (it feels good.)

I'm not sure if I have any. Does it matter what kind?

Are there any other alternatives?

I know it may sound gross to some, but can't you pee on the sting and make it stop burning if you have nothing else?

Yeah I peed on it twice so far, it makes it pretty tolerable.

Doesn't take it away 100%, maybe if I would have peed on it right away, but I waited about 4 or 5 hours before trying it.

I may try a 3rd time tonight (I've been drinking some red wine all night ) but like I said, it is at least tolerable.

I now hate bristle worms.

Thanks guys.

For the record, does the type of vinegar matter?

The bristles are Ca based, so anything that is able to dissolve Ca will be able to help. Typically vinegar is the most easiest to acquire.

hahahaha I think I'm up to 3 times so far. Too much red wine to remember! ahahahaha

But I will have to say, the only time I feel the burning/stinging sensation is when I apply pressure to my finger. If I just let it be, it's really not that bad at all.

It's been a little while, so I don't know if it's time, or the pee that did it, but I'm sure it's a combo of both. More so the latter.

This is a perfect example of why not to play with our fish tanks when drunk! LOL! I've learned the hard way ALWAYS sober when screwin around with the tank!

distilled white vinegar is best, in my experience. apple cider vinegar has alot of other stuff in it.

or use urine... either way :P

First use duct tape over the area. Press the tape on and then remove it. It will "pull" bristles that are still partially exposed (above the skin line). After that, any vinegar will do - the acid dissolves the calcium-based bristles.

Well I realized today that it was the pee that was helping, not time, because this morning I woke up and my fingers were killing me again.

So the pee definitely works very well.

That was actually the first thing that I did, was use the duct tape to pull the bristles out. The idea just popped in my head and I ran with it, it worked pretty well.

And I started drinking after putting my hands in the tank.

Thanks guys.

Haha.. great thread. So here's an idea, instead of just peeing on it, pee in a cup (like a paper cup, not your favorite coffee cup, geez) and stick your finger in the cup, for constant relief.

You can thank me later, and no handshakes

just a FYI if you have meat tenderizer that works awesome on pretty much any sting as it breaks down the proteins in the venom.
