Koralia 1 or nano for 29g?
Was wondering if I should buy (2) Hydor Korelia 1's or two of the nano versions rated at 240gph. I know it nearly half the gph of the one's but they are the size of an egg and for a 29g tank it'd look better.
Any input? |

What type of corals do you plan on keeping? Your going to need atleast two of the #1s anyways.

I had 1 of the #2's and a maxijet 900 i my 29G Softy tank.... Worked great flow is distributed nicely. If you have a sandbed you will have to aim it up a little to kepp the sandstorms down....

While the nano's are great, I think the #1's would serve you better.
Or just do what i do and use one of each Nano, 1, 2. :c)

How about two nanos and a 1??? That works out to around 30 turnovers /hr.

I had 2 #1's on my 29 and had good flow, didn't stir up the sand at all.

I have Xenia's, Ric's, Starbusrt, zoa's and mushrooms, which are multiplying like rabbits. BTW I had tried a #2 with the #1 and it was way to much flow for those corals. HTH

These pumps are over rated and i think the price makes them more decieving. Like your skimmer bigger is better. If you buy good powerheads they come with flow control valves.
Plus if you really want them i would get the #3 or #4 . Never underestimate the positive effects of proper flow. |

The health of the tank is better then an unhappy coral , and corals can be moved away from flow. Low flow will cause many differant problems and many are not seen for months or yrs. |

I ended up with two Hydor Koralia #2s, and one Seio M620 in my 29 gallon tank, as you can see in the picture below. I am just now finally mostly satisfied with the flow. I do have a lot of rock, though, and I might have been able to get away with a little less flow if I had less rock.
I am keeping SPS corals up high, and some some Xenia and Zoanthids also. The beauty of the Hydors is that they are easy to adjust to get your flow just as you want it. Remember, more flow generally equals less problems, and a lot of corals can probably handle more flow than we suspect. |
