It looks like a copy of the Reeflo Orca 250 with new collection cup. Its made by Mako, whoever they are, not by Sequence, but it looks good and has nice features, features I wish the original had, its cheaper and customizable. Uses same pump and rated for the same sized tanks. The only thing holding it back would be positive feedback on its build quality.

Actually looks like its more expensive - the fine print says it doesnt come with the pump.

The ebay price is a bit higher then the price of the actual skimmer.A buddy of mine is making these, based from the Dart NW skimmer's that are out there right now.Im buying one a bit taller from him with an Alita 40 air pump driving it.Im going with a 12" diameter 24" tall reaction chamber instead of the 18" standard size.
The skimmer bodies, cones, necks, etc are all made of Cast Acrylic and are quite a bit thicker then the Reeflo's. The boxes are made of 3/8" black acrylic and are customizable to your sump/tank conditions. In fact Mine will be the exact opposite of the layout that the pic is.Thats the one good thing about these skimmers is you have a choice to make them as tall or as short as you want and change anything that you want, unlike most of the other skimmer Manuf. The wash down system is pretty cool, but it does require an additional pump to use it. I plan on putting it on a timer to come on a few times a day using my AC3. It utilizes a sprinkler type fitting in the middle of the cup that sprays a 360 degree circle around the inside of the cup. I will be sure to post plenty of pics in this thread once i get mine. |

I've got one of the Mako skimmers.
If you look at the standard sequence dimensions, you'll notice they're a little odd..probably made in China or something. The Mako's are a little bigger and much more beefier. They look rock solid and are quite tough (I've dropped mine already, doh!). The wasdown feature on them is awesome; imagine not having to tear down the skimmer to clean it. And, if you set it up like 46, you just let your Rk2/AC3 run the clean up. If you're concerned about build quality, don't be...this thing is built like a tank. Oh, and the price on ebay is higher than if you buy direct. Probably to cover ebay fees or something. I would contact them and order it directly. btw, I just went with the standard model. The bigger one's with the Alita are going to be bada$$! |

Mine will be a 12" Diameter & 24" high reaction chamber which will require an additional air pump.Total height of the skimmer will be around 44-46" tall. Ill be sure to post some pics once I get mine. He can make any size skimmer up to 27" diameter Cast Acrylic with several Dart NW pumps. ![]() |

These look like different skimmers than the ORCAs? Here's a link to an ORCA 200 thread with pics.

Yes they are different. These are bigger and can be made to any Specs. unlike the Orca's. Also made out of thicker Cast Acrylic bodies and flanges.

looks like a clone of a great skimmer that has a lot of R&D behind it.
Funny how you talk about it being made in the USA.Seems like everyone is always complaining about chinese knockoffs.Well guess what,it seems us Americans are good at making knockoffs to.

Lol thats not innovate, thats imitate.Hell I got the skills and knowledge to take someone else's design and market it.Would I?Heck no I have to much self-respect. Whats really bad about the whole thing is that skriz is saying that the orca is probaly made in China.Sweet jesus if your going to talk down about something at least know the facts about it. These 2 guys also act like there the ones that developed the needle wheel dart and added the alita for extra performance.Sequence didnt even have the imagination to come up with that one.The whole development of the needle wheel darts comes courtesy of Spazz here on RC. Also this Mako manufacturer certainly shouldnt be called a manufacturer.Have you seen the pics of these skimmers.Looks like there being built in a car garage. To be honest these guys seem like there trying to slip a commercial post here on RC.

The ReefFlo bobies are made by Shenzhen-Honya... the same people who make the octopus/CoralVue style skimmers.
The ReefFlo is based on the Octo recirc 400 body. |

![]() About the only thing they have in common, is that they both use large diameter acrylic tubing. The Orca-250 body is the same diameter (12 inches) as the Octo-TDNW triple recirc skimmer. The FDNW quad body is 18". I also have the Octo-TDNW and the Orca-200 running on clients' systems, and will more than likely eventually be buying an Orca-200 for my 300g Shark tank. -Tim BTW: The other night, I noticed BLUE foam in the collection cup of my Orca-250, and it drove me insane wondering what could possibly have caused that to happen... As it turns out, it was the dye that had been pulled out of the Bio-Blend Herbivore fish food that I use. Last edited by tgreene; 01/01/2008 at 09:37 AM. |

I should also add that there are a couple of things that I absolutely hate about the new Orca skimmers...
Orca-250: No bottom drain & the stupid standpipe twist adjuster. My 1.5" gate valves are on order. Orca-200: The new neck flange is very difficult to work with when the skimmer is in a stand, because it just takes too much twisting and pressing. It also uses the same stupid twist adjuster standpipe as the Orca-250, and it too is getting a gate valve. The cup drain for the Orca-200 is an accident waiting to happen, while the Orca-250 drain is the same heavy duty fitting as on the Octo's. I do like that the skimmers have tapered adapters which allow for the conversion to standard PVC fittings. The Orca-200 even ships with a fitting to convert the intake, while the Orca-250 doesn't include this piece. These fittings need to be made available to allow for the easier conversion of the Octo's that are out there. -Tim
