Most any food-grade container should be fine. The RubberMaid Brute trashcans are popular.

RO/DI Holding Tank
I use a 40g container that I bought off the internet for about $100.00usd. It has worked great for two years. I also installed a Kent auto shut off so, I just turn on the RO and let it fill up. I then turn the water off and add salt. I find approximately (8) cups of salt mix gets the salt to 1.025. I'll try and add a picture.

the lid is important also
I left 20 gals open to the air for a week. My r/o water measures a TDS of 3 consistently. The r/0 water in the pail had risen to 9--stuff from the air circulation in the house

I have two 50 gallon drums. One with mixed water and one with just RO/DI water ready to go. I dont use a pump but do have the water heated to around 78-79 degrees. I use these types of water containers...

I have had water stored in a trash can (Rubbermaid roughneck) for a couple days. I read you can use a Rubbermaid Brute. Will my water be OK if I move it?

Here's my recent setup....it's been serving me well....
![]() The water goes from the resevoir to a water pump. Then I placed Eheim disconnects below it for changing the tubing from a short one that gets to the nearby utility sink to one that will reach over to the ranks in a nearby room. The water will actually run by gravity if I turn on the valve allowing it to flow from the resevoir, but the pump...which isn't a very powerful one....moves the water about twice as fast if I turn it on with the switch that can be seen in the photo.
