Shortest Lived Fish Ever
I got this idea from another thread...
What is the fastest you've had a fish die on you? I added a yellow watchman goby to my display and after about 12 hours I found him dead in my sumps filter sock. |

I put a fish in QT and it died within 4 hours. Poor thing came from most bullied fish in the LFS tank to death by heater malfunction.

ive never had a fish that died really fast, ...well except for a yellow tang i had for one day after which i couldnt find him anywhere...a few weeks later when i was about to do a water change i found him on the top the center brace of my tank,..., he was fried from my halides...
Nearly all my fish spent a night in my filter sock at one point or the other , the last one was a blue damsel., They usually only do it once or twice though.Even after i put in the eggcrate. |

I watched someone work on a maintenance account and they added a firefish to a tank with a ray in it. I would say about 30 seconds.

Does it include time in the bag acclimating? If not, shortest has to be my friend's yellow striped cleaner fish. Went straight from the bag down onto a mini carpet anemone. Time actually in the tank alive had to be less than 5 seconds.

psidriven - I would have to include the time the cleaner was being digested alive by the anemone. Lets add another couple minutes to that. :P

About 3 minutes. It was my very first salt fish. I dropped in a sebae clown and he spun in circles for about three minutes before kicking the bucket. To this day I have no idea why.

A Flame Angel. My brother bought him for me. He died before he could ever see him swim in my tank. A few hours at most...

My rainsford goby....introduced him in the tank and my 6-line wrasse killed him in less than 30 seconds. Literally tore chunks out of him. Poor goby, expensive snack.

I had a Mappa Puffer that thought the two clown fish I was adding to the tank was his dinner. After 3 weeks of QT, I dropped the clowns into the tank and the first one was eaten within maybe...3 seconds and the second within a few minutes...I felt really bad.

We had a polleni grouper in the store I ran, probably close to a year. One night a guy decided to buy it.
I bagged the fish (huge bag too), placed it on the counter in a styro. As I was ringing the guy up, the fish went belly up. I got him back in the system ASAP, he died within 5 minutes. I would say, for the customer, having a fish die as you are buying it would be about as fast a death as you can get.

6line wrasse. After acclimating i dropped him in, then went to get a beer. Came back and didn't see the fish in the tank. Few minutes later found it on the carpet behind the tank.
Maybe 2-3 min actually in the tank.

I had a Blue Throat Trigger last all but 1 minute in my tank. After acclimation I put him in on the left side of the tank. He made it over to the right side and ended up inside of my haddoni.
