With coral ita all about water quality and space. If you have room then no problem.Just learn to frag and trim your coral.

Smaller tanks require more attention.Water changes , testing , top off. They are a little more time consuming but a great learning tool. If you can keep this tank up and water quality high then you will have no trouble with a larger tank later.

I would say at least a 60 gallon, and they need to eat a couple times a day

Lance, I think you misread the title. he's asking about anthias, not sun coral.
OP, I don't know the answer to your question, but Lance probably does, so I just wanted to help him answer you. heres the info sheet from marinedepot : http://www.marinedepotlive.com/fathe...--anthias.html one from liveaquaria: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p....cfm?pCatId=52 one from marinecenter: http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/ant...nburstanthias/ seems as though there is a large difference of opinion out there. i'm interested in what responses you might get from those who keep these. good luck.

I just looked at your experience line. are you thinking of an anthia for the 14 gallon tank? if so, i would say that simply based on the fact that some sites recommend upwards of 80 gallons as a minimum size, that would be way too small. i would reconsider that choice, if that is your plan. look at a clown goby or something small with not a lot of swimming space required. good luck.

well, good luck then (?) I'm a bit confused about why you asked the question in the first place?

Sunbursts are not nice fish actually. They are pretty, but they tend to pick on other anthias, esp their own kind.
They are also touchy when it comes to keeping them happy. Hardy if you give them what they want, but still, a PITA fish IMO. I woudnt suggest one for less than a 75g. Unless its the only fish in the tank, then a 40g. |

hahn, in a 40breeder, could you put a sunburst and some kind of bottom dwelling fish, like a goby or blenny?

Even with 2+, as they mature, they tend to pick each other off unless the 2 happen to be a pair. But as they mature, the pairs will become nasty to each other even. They remind me alot of bangii cardinals actually.

So, yes, the answer is a tough one and you definitely didn't want to hear it. I must admit I am a bit confused as why you asked your question in the first place if you had an idea that you wouldn't like the answer? But, the answer is really moot and you don't really need to justify your decision to anyone, just as we don't have to agree or condone bad livestock decisions. Good luck, I recommend you take it back, it has a very high chance of not surviving long as it grows. |

???????????
for anyone else actually interested in this fish.......... have one of these in our tank (210gal system) beautiful fish... since adding it started feeding tank 2x/day although have heard that bec this is not as 'active' a fish as the other anthias that multiple feedings was not as necessary (they dont swim around much and tend to hover in one area)... one thing do notice is that its really picky eater... only eats hikari mysis and wont eat any other brand for some reason... also wont eat anything else like emerald entree etc (have only seen it eat the hikari mysis period!) it even spits the hikari out on regular basis before it finally gets a piece it likes... have a lot of mysid swimming around in the tank (as well as pods) and i wonder if it gets any of these on its own... have had it for 8mos or so and it appears atleast to be thriving... its mostly peaceful all its tankmates are a peaceful bunch - yet i do notice it on occasion pushing the chromis out the way - but i certainly dont consider it to be an aggressive fish whatsoever. seems to be (some) contradictory info out there about this fish would be interested in keeping more in a small school 3-5 if they would cohabitate well together... anyone ever kept these in larger numbers together ??? regards |
