I think I've solved my Majano problem!!

My lfs has Klein's Butterflyfish. They feed on Aiptasia and Majano's but are reef safe. I put 2 of them in my refugium with some rocks that had majano's. After one day all rocks were clean.

I think tomorrow I will put them in majano plagued tank.

Anyone have any experience with these?

No experience with them whatsoever... but I just wanted to let ya know that I think it's great that you got rid of your majano's... I know that those things have caused more than a few hobbyists to pull their hair out. The real damn shame is that majano's look really cool. It's too bad that they are a detriment to any reef tank. Anyways, good luck!

Klein's are not reef safe. Keep an eye on your corals. Most of the ones we get have a taste for zoos and some LPS.

Will they accept frozen/prepared foods after you Majano if gone? or are they going to move to your corals like Aquabucket said?

They will readily eat prepared foods and are pretty hardy but will still spend most of the day picking at your rock-work and eventually certain corals.

In my opinion no Butterfly fish are 100% reef save. It will just be a matter of time before they start nipping. If you can easily get them out no problem, otherwise it's a PITA.. I have tried a couple "reef safe' one being the Threadfin the other the Pearlscale both did an great job on the aiptasia. Then they turned there sights on my SPS..

My LFS gave me a klein's to overcome an aiptasia problem on some rock I bought from them. It really took care of the aiptasia. Don't know about majanos. It also ate any prepared food I put in the tank, but then started eating my zoanthids so it had to go back. I kind of miss him.

Why are majanos bad? I have one that's been on a rock for the past 4months and it looks pretty. i'm hesitant to kill it.

I didnt realize what all the fuss was about either at one point
see the following link for VETERAN reefers (from sps forum) discussing having to tear down their entire systems bec this pest overgrew their tanks in the plumbing etc etc

fwiw - recom getting the majano out of your tank asap
before it leads to a (((demoralizing))) event... and would approach it very carefully - IOW make sure you know what you are doing before you haphazardly go trying to remove it... it wasnt until i tried to remove it that it began to spread.

Once the aiptasia are in your system the fish only control them. Once the fish is gone they will reappear, any predator needs to be full time or they will again gain a foothold...

once spotted them in our system...
and the subsequent spreading... i bleached ALL the LR they were attached to (about 40# worth out of 200+# = small dent overall and small sacrifice) and threw out the coral colonies that were even in close proximity - couldnt trade/sell these - there was ONLY one FAIR option in my mind atleast!... and have waited it out not done anything w/ this tank... for prob going on 6 mos now... was wanting to wait and see what was going to happen and wanted to avoid further 'demoralizing' - (what a learning curve in this hobby ay?)

after reading/RESEARCHING this pest
wasnt worth it to take a chance!

thats why its so important
to get any signs of them removed right away...

interesting that following RC
some people think its a simple matter to deal w/... and have seen reported cases of people just zapping one or 2 and the problem is gone (seemingly atleast???)... i think Melev has documented this on his site... but have also read here on RC where someone thought it was a simple matter zapped it and they kept coming back...

by that time - its (probably) too late!

there is no guarantee
that i stopped this infestation but atleast havent seen any rear their ugly heads either! and the bleached rock has been returned to the system - eventually to become 'LIVE' again (already getting coralline!)... luckily our tank is out away from the wall about a foot and i have a acrylic removable back on it so i can periodically check behind all the LR in the dt - for any signs of these pests... i still wonder if there are any somewhere in the LR in the refugium or even hiding in some of the chaeto (where have removed some originally)...

but only time will tell!

My Majano's are at such a plague proportion that these guys will be fat and happy for a long time without turning to the corals, and its pretty much my last resort before tearing the tank down.

I used to think they were nice looking, then it seemed like all of the sudden they had taken over my tank. And they seem to grow on my LPS corals causing them to recess.

GET RID OF THEM IF YOU HAVE THEM!!!
