Question How good do these work???

They work great with fluidized GFO media in them. I also run a second one with carbon in it.

I'm going to put one with phosban on my 29g BC. Approx how long does the media last?

Media life is going to depend on your tank conditions, feeding habits and other things. In the beginning it may not last long but with good housekeeping and tank maintenance after you get it under control the media should last a few months per refiill. Early on you start out with a lighter dosage and change it more often so you do not shock or bleach your corals while they acclimate to the change in conditions.
