algae magnents

I'm thinking of buying THIS MAGNENT but I am wondering how good these things really are? Can you get all the way down to your sand and get that last little bit without sand getting stuck in it? How good is it at getting in the rounded edges of an acrylic tank? How long does the pad last? Thanks!!!!!

with any magnet cleaner yoiu still have to manually clean parts of your tank with some sort of pad or scraper, none of them reach everywhere, to do a perfect glass cleaning job you just gotta dive in there.

if your tank is acrylic i would be real careful cleaning it, it takes 1 grain of sand on magnets to scar a tank, make sure the kids done get ahold of it, seems like they magnets are the first thing they grab for.

ive found that the mag floats are about the best value for an algae magnet out there, there are some high dollar ones ive seen and i got a laugh out of them really, i mean how lazy can one really get.

the one you listed seems like a good magnet, sounds like everything is covered with it.

I have to agree. I have used a magfloat for a little over a year now and I swear by it. IMO however you need to get one that is a good size don't go cheap...

That makes sense. I figured it wouldnt be a replacement for some good ole elbow grease. Algae hasnt been a real problem since my first diatom outbreak. But, for me, this would help with getting those little spots that show up now and again. Otherwise I have to remove my light fixture and that can be a pain. Thanks for the input.

Then you have never used the algae free magnets.

What makes them so good, they use very strong magnets . the one for my 125 is so strong that I can barely get them apart if they come together outside the tank. I am 6ft. 220lbs. with the magnets being that strong its the magnets applying the elbow grease to the tank.
The other good thing about them is the pads are all re placeable
so if its not plowing thru algae coraline included you order a new set.

Remember they offer different sizes based on your tank size and thickness, I bought the size small thay they suggested (to save a few bucks) but regret it and now mostly use my larger plastic floater ionstead.
