No prob! It's been in the works for some time, so the novelty has worn off. Despite it being in captivity for almost 4 years, it's a difficult piece to maintain. Primary reason why there's only three true echinatas in the hobby.

So what is the other one Karl of the three? There are so many "Echnitas" these days........I am tired of trying to keep up.
Won't you say another reason Karl, is the growth rate of the Echinatas? Here is just about a years worth of growth for me, its starting to take off. The Tubs Real Deal is growing, but is just as slow of a piece, which by the way has this SWEET golden hue all over. Now compare this growth rate to the Lime in the Sky a year ago

There is the aquascene, the tubs, and the debate of the jesus. I also thinnk that Tony's was a real echinata as well. Dr Mac is also distributing an echinata that looks pretty good, but I will have to see it when it grows out.
Great growths shots Doug.

What do you think about the kohen's echinata?? It looks pretty real deal to me. But I am no coral ID guru.

I'd say Yep on the Kohen Fonda has another, but I have never seen a good picture of it. I am like you, amatuer id'ers

I think this one would of qualified as well
What about the scepter? Steve told me it was a thiner branching piece then in the original photo. The jury is still out on that one.

Yeah too bad that one didn't survive Mark
There are a lot of "Echinata ****cough**** Turaki" floating around, I thought Kohens might be.....but like I said, am getting tired of the misnamed stuff. Considering, last summer most stuff didn't grow at all and the exponetial acceleration as they get bigger, I expect them to be much bigger by this time next.

Yours looks better than mine, Doug!
The 3 echinatas I was suggesting was the Ice Fire, Real Deal, and Kohen. The Real Deal and Kohen are pretty much spitting images of eachother. I think it's pretty safe to say that neither the Jesus and Blue Scepter are echinatas. I have both, and 9 out of 10 reefers mistake them for the Oregon Tort |

I'd love to see the Scepter if you can play a little show and tell.
The Real Deal is fast becoming a rival to the Icefire. Because of the bright lights I have, there it is all golden with the little bit of yellow/gold rim at the edge of the coralite, I am trying to be patient with this one as well, because it is a SLOW grower too as most of the deeper water ones are. I have had a turaki for about two years that has yet to grow but looks like it may start soon. I hope that the wild piece that Yourreef had which I id as a A. willisae, and had the resident SPS id guy come up with the same without suggestion as well, Kolognekoral.....hopefully will show some future potential........being a rare species itself???? I really love the polyps on this thing and does look much different than the plana. BTW, Karl mine can never look better than the original......its like getting 110%......it just can't be done!! Yours sets the standard, am I am just pround to be able to be one of the first to have the oppurtunity to keep it. I thank you for sharing it with us and Rich for finding and bringing this treasure to our area in addition to all the others we are lucky to have around.

How about the acro subglabra...anyone seen this coral in the trade...it is a very close relative to the echinata. Brian and I bought a wild colony and I ID'd it as so...very cool coral, especially if you liek the smooth skinned corals .
