Nick,
Elos. I do not trust salifert and I will never buy one of their products again.

i use both...they each have their advantages and disadvantages. The elos kit only goes in 75ppm increments but the color is easy to see. The salifert mag kit has much more attenuation but i find it the hardest color change to see of all of the salifert kits.

for everyone using the elos, are you having problems with it also? It says to multiply each drop by 100 but then I have magnesium levels of 1600. The 75 makes more logical sense since ive never dosed magnesium but i dont understand why it says to multiply by 100 in the instructions.

where did you get 75ppm?? I agree, salifert kits are junk. There was a long period where the sali kits were way off. Many people I know, now refuse to use them....... |

There was only 1 month produced whick gave readings in 75 ppm increments. I believe it was 12/07 if I remember correctly. All other kits are 100 ppm.
You can also double the water sample to get you to 50 ppm increments but of course, you will use more reagents. I have no issues anymore with any Salifert kit. They still make the best kit out there for hobby grade kits. I can certainly understand some reluctance to use them due to past issues however, they seem to be resolved and they are still one of the most accurate kits for the money. |

The Elos Mg that gave 75ppm increments was 12/09. There was a thread in the elos forum discussing it.

I use ELOS for Mg. and PO4. I'm very happy with them. i use LaMotte kits for Ca and Alk. I used to use Salifert, but do not anymore, and probably will not. My Salifert Alk. kit (that i still have) reads 1dKH high all the time. My previous Salifert Alk. kit did as well.
For Mg, I say ELOS all the way. Easy to run, easy to see color change, and cheap!

I used to use salifert, but I recently bought a new ALK salifert, and it was totally off.. I compared it to 2 seprate elos kits, and an "older" alk kit.. both elos, and the older salifert matched, the new salifert was off by over 2.5 points.....
oh my elos mag is by 100 also.. says i have 1200 doh! need to raise that sucker up!

Is it 75 or 100 per drop? When i test i get 17 drops and if i multiply by 75 it is 1275 instead of 1700 which seems way off.

Nick,
Elos all the way... i will never buy a salifert product ever again. My MG kit is 100 ppm per drop. |

If the expiration date stamped on the back of the box says 12/09 then it was one of the batches produced that is 75ppm per drop. In my 12/09 kit, the instructions still say 100ppm per drop, but that was incorrect. Here is the link to the thread. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...readid=1303625

Aside from the recent alk test issue, I have never had a problem with Salifert.
