QT - Nitrate a bit high Getting fish in 2 hours
I'm getting some fish in the next 2 hours off of a plane.. and for some reason.. my Nitrate ( the good one ) is not at 0 its about 2-4 ... but all my levels are normal.. in QT..
I just did a water change 2 days ago... should i need to worry.. QT has been set up for about 8 months... |

As long as your QT has a stable biological filter that was already cycled and is large enough to handle the bioload that you're going to put in it, I would not worry about a little nitrate. You are going to have some nitrate if you do not have some sort of export for it and a water change won't eliminate all Nitrate (unless it's a total exchange). I don't quite understand why you say "Nitrate" the good one, Nitrate is just the least lethal of the products of the cycle. Hopefully you didn't order a boatload of fish at once.

I don't understand what a "good nitrate" is, as any nitrates above 0 are not good.
Do you have two tanks? Your post says that "all my levels are normal.. in QT..". If all your levels are normal in your qt tank, put the new fish in there and work on getting your nitrate back to 0 in your display tank. Good luck! Joyce |

I think he means nitrite vs nitrate. 2-4 ppm nitrate is nothing to worry about when it comes to fish. I've seen them do fine in levels 10 times that.

My DT is fine.. everything is 0
I'm not sure.. why they are but they are low.. just read my test kit and (seachem) and they said that keep them below 20 mg/l .. Oh the reason i said the good ones is that I now its really BAD to have any nitrite in your water...

will do.. last time i got my royal gramma it has some FLUKES.. and died just before we were about to put it in our DT...

 THis fish isn't for me... well time to go look at my new corals and crabs... later
