Thanks, now that I have the numbers, I need to do some research and try to gain a better understanding of what they mean...

I kind of put the cart before the horse on this one

Oh and I need to give Laura credit for the PAR test results from today... She was on speaker phone the whole time, (since she lives in PA), as I was yelling values across the room at the phone for her to record in a spreadsheet that I emailed her.

WOW it's almost 9:30 already Where the heck did the day go??? I gotta get the car loaded up for tomorrow... sheesh

The best thing to have when doing a reef is a great spouse or a girlfriend my wife has been there helping on almost all aspects of setting up our tank.

the day always go by so fast when we don't have to work or are just haveing fun on RC

haha... $20 seems to be the standard for just about everything. high enough to be believable, yet low enough to not warrant a follow up question.

I think they secretly know, but need to do some further investigation before I can publish my findings.

Also, when I get the time I need to check out the story behind the $20 shoes and purses... If there are a pair of red and blue shoes in the closet, then the following week some purple ones... that just means she was successful at breeding them... right...???

My wife recently spend over 400.00 at Coldwater Creek. Where does she get off? It's a good thing for her Grim is a sweet and swell guy who doesn't mind giving his wife the better things in life.

Or it could be the fact that as I sit here typing I can see over 1200.00 in lighting fixtures, about 500.00 worth of lamps and the marine Depot box my SECOND Reefkeeper that made up about half the cost of the order.

All kidding aside I think we are all fortunate to have the support of our spouses in this hobby. I don't know how many times my wife has said to me----if it will make you happy go and buy it.

to our spouses

Indeed

My wife has a better than 50 grand a year job and knows exactly what I spend on the tank. She STILL asks me before she goes on major shopping trips. I mean its embarrasing, Nice problem to have but damn.

Post from a long time lurker

Been lurking this thread for a long time now and figured it was time to post.

Great tank and thread, glad to hear your PBT is doing good now. What software do you use for logging your water params?

Hey Kar, nice to see you finally making an appearance over here

Thanks... Yeah the PBT doing well, he still eats like a pig, and only has a few visible spots remaining on him.

As far as the log goes, I just made a simple spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel to keep track of the parameters.

Oh my wife knows what most things cost--and I do tell her.
The other line I get on something expensive is "you handle the money dear, if you think we can afford it go ahead"

FYI... I put the algae clip in the middle of the tank today, and the tangs are totally FREAKED OUT...

It's hilarious, they keep swimming over to it, sneak a quick bite, then shoot back into the rocks... then they hover in the old spot looking out at me like... "c'mon man... what the heck!"

How much do you guys spend a month on your systems--new purchases chemicals ect
I used to spend 200 a month--now I spend 35 dollars due to my temporary forced retirement and its killing me to conserve
I was going to purchase a new fish--first in 4 months due to a birthday present but didn't want to fork out 40 buck on gas to do it

I don't mean hydro ect--just what you spend on stuff you don't really need -fish, corals. inverts ect

I was making a caeser salad the other night and though what the heck and clipped a piece of romaine lettuce in the middle of the tank.
All the tangs and the foxface hid--they were scared of it
And when they did come out they avoided it like the plague

You're not supposed to put dressing on it.

I don't track it, but I can assure you it adds up, Scott.

Regarding the romaine lettuce, put a very small piece on the clip rathe than a full leaf. They will check it out and like it. The next day, put a bit more. Over time they will quickly recognize it and you can have a couple of full leaves hanging on the glass for a second before they pounce like piranhas.

Make sure you wash the lettuce first.

I thought romaine lettuce wasn't really healthy for them anyways?
