I have a ton of mysis, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and silversides that I stocked up on deals even back as far as xmas
Its called creative hiding in the family freezer--LOL

I guess if you had to count food it would be another 20 bucks a month rounded out

Better than most. You've seen "butter lettuce" at the supermarket, right? In Europe, that is their normal lettuce (compared to our Iceberg lettuce), and I've seen plenty of images of europeans dropping in that stuff to feed their livestock.

Nori is a better option, but some real lettuce won't hurt. Others have used blanched broccoli, and I've even seen orange wedges rubberbanded to rock. My tangs like to eat a little banana too.

the banana is no joke--its a great food for them--

except the yellow plastic ones my grandkids like to toss in the sump occasionally along with their plastic crabby paddies(its a sponge bob thing)

how would dew worms be in a marine tank if you chopped them up--I know I have flicked a spider or two in there and they are gone before they hit the surface

how about shrimp ceasar instead or crab salad.
That way you wouldn't have to wash your hands after they were in your tank

Wow, this is a long thread. I was invited after posting this:

I love how boyfriends like to bring home new fish as a present, but know nothing about them. My friend had a 20 gallon tank with a clownfish and damsel in it. On her birthday her boyfriend surprised her with a yellow tang! She quickly took it back to the fish store.
I had the pleasure of waking up one morning and finding a note on the counter from my boyfriend. "I ordered some fish. You need to stay home tomorrow when they deliver them." Needless to say I had a long talk with him about buying fish for my tank without my knowledge! It wasn't too bad though. He didn't buy anything too crazy and all of the fish look good in their QT tanks right now.

Oh and I just tried feeding banana to my tangs yesterday. My boyfriend said he read tangs can't resist them somewhere. lol. My tangs, clowns, bicolor angel, and damsel seemed to like it. I also recently tried broccoli. My orange shoulder could care less (he only likes his nori), but my convict tang and clarkii clowns loved it!

I don't mean hydro ect--just what you spend on stuff you don't really need -fish, corals. inverts ect
Oh geeze... it's been high, but not as bad lately with the PBT situation, and summer baseball season starting... I would still be nervous to sit down and type it out, as I am always finding myself in need of some type of new product... and I have that ever growing list of dry goods that I would "LIKE" to have.

Eventually like you said, I would like to get to just replacing the 2 part, carbon, and phosban.

I've heard of romaine lettuce, bananas, and even orange slices from one guy (used to drop them in for his passer angel).

I just always assumed it didn't add any nutritional value for them, so I've never tried.

They probably just want to give that giant clown something to play with while he is in time out

My uncle was on a kick when I was younger with frozen bananas, pineapple, and cantaloupe... Sort of a healthy snack instead of ice cream I guess. It actually wasn't too bad.

Yeah my gf always has a new "fish of the week" that she wants to order for me, and is always sending me links to coral or fish sales... She definitely makes it hard for me to control my spending... and it has gotten a lot worse recently since my bday is getting closer.

I knew moving that veggie clip would cause some commotion! It's like you turned their world upside down. Imagine if you had put in on the left side of the tank, they probably wouldn't even had seen it.

Tswifty, when you used the quantum meter (I'm assuming that's what you used to measure the PAR), was it just a number, or was there a unit? I've been reading a lot about PAR and Lux etc., but I couldn't really find a unit for PAR. Is it like TDS where a really low number is good except in this case it's opposite where a high number is good, but it's just a value?

And if there is anybodies' mind that I can pick about overdriving T5 bulbs with an Ice Cap, and maybe some other lighting Q's please let me know. I have a pretty firm grasp, but I need some gaps filled before I have a bridge

Oh, and Tswifty, did you decide that since your fish were diseased that you are going to hold off for a couple of months for fish? What are you thinking for your next purchase (fish/invert)?

We're having a great time here--but

Marc--I hope you have connections to keep DC from sending this thread to the Lounge

any tests been made that compare T.J's six T5 to a halide/attinic system similar to mine

A guy here on RC has been testing PAR for T5s but nothing has been completed yet, I don't think. You can contact fijiblue.

Debi won't say anything, as we are quite on topic.

Haha... yeah I didn't want to go to extreme and put the clip all the way on the other side... My luck, the PBT probably would have gotten stressed and broken out again from it

As far as the new additions go... I'm not as concerned about the PBT anymore, as he seems to have built up an immunity and is kicking it on his own. Also the new additions would be in QT for 4 weeks before making it to the display tank.

The ideas that have been rolling through my mind right now are:

Anthias
Bangaii Cardinals
Blue Spot Jawfish
Green Mandarin Dragonet
Mystery Wrasse
Sixline Wrasse
Some type of Leopard Wrasse
Potter's Angel
Magnificent Foxface
Regal Angel
2 or 3 more tangs ( j/k j/k guys)

I can't seem to set myself on something I "REALLY" want right now, so until I can... I'm holding off. Any suggestions would be appreciated also.

In all reality my next addition will be an anemone or clam, and relatively soon hopefully.

Eibli Mimic Tang

T.J. this was the fish I was going to drive 40 miles to and back to pick it up till I read on it a bit and I spent a good 2hrs calling all over southern ontario to find it.
It only keeps the colours and stripes when it is young then changes to one colour of grey when its an adult
That's a real let down isn't it
I have settled on a powder blue like yours so I guess I don't need to qt it

Well Happy Birthday Scott

Mine isn't for another month... July 20th

Laura wants to travel somewhere since I may take a few days off work. I went to Charleston, SC last year... She threw out the idea of visiting The National Aquarium in Maryland as a possiblilty... but we'll see.

I love the PBT's color, it's just been quite a process getting him settled in to say the least
