Return pump Q

How many Gph should me sumps return pump be for my 10gallon sump and 29 gallon display tank?? I need something that can push the water straight up about 3.5-4 feet through a 1/2 or 3/4in pipe back into the tank. I am not wanting this to be the tanks only flow source, I have other powerheads. I just need a fairly inexpensive pump with the ability to get the water back in the tank. Brand suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

thanks, john

Mag would work fine, even a 7 would work for even more flow, just don't point the return to the front of your tank or you will run the risk of blowing the water over the front of your tank. If your going to go with a 7 have 2 returns, or split 1 into 2. Ehiem is the nice as well. Last longer too IMO.

i agree with the prevoius posters. mag 5-7 would be fine and the eheim would be even better. but the bigger thwe pump consider having the line split into two ports.

I'd skip the mag drives, I think the Mag 5 is more than you need or want and they're not exactly compact. I'd look into the Hydor Seltz pumps or the Eheim Compact 1000. Anything rated 200-300 GPH will be fine for your needs.

Now thats what I have been wanting to hear, B/c the last thing I want is a loud pump creating a cyclone in my tank.

So I guess Im going to get the Hydor Seltz L25 rated for 265Gph , I'm guessing that that Is the best choice for what Im looking for that is in my price range, but Im just worried that It wont have to power to push the water up the return pipe, but then again I have never done a sump before so what do I know, right?

Go with the Eheim Compact 1000 instead, it's rated at the same GPH, has a 3 year warranty, and has a max head of 6'6". To top it all off it's a touch cheaper than the Hydor.
