Korillia 4 voltage leak
About 6 Months old and started leaking voltage into the tank. Just bought a new one, hope this was a fluke but figured I'd ask.
Anyone else have this issue with these? |

I had the same issue. I called Hydor, and they replaced my pump with minimal effort.

I have had four now that developed voltage leaks...even the new ones that were replaced started leaking voltage.
It was by fluke that I found out that they were leaking V when one of the K4's stopped working. I was using the beeping current detector pens to see if there was power going through the K4's cord. I had the pen in my back pocket and leaned my butt on the tank after a headrush from getting up too fast...LOL! |

I had a 4 and had some problems w/ it. I am now using 3 of the 3's they actually seem like a better pump, plus a little smaller.

If you contact Hydor USA directly and have the Serial # on your pump, they can track those numbers backwards to see if you have a pump from the one of the batch run's that had several voltage leak failures. We also run one of the titanium grounding probes as a CYA + a surge protector & GFCI outlet for the electrical system.

I got nipped when I touvched the light fixture and the water at the same time. It happened with just the led's on which are 12v so it was obviously something chasing to ground through the fixture. Broke out the meter and first thing I checked was it. 105 vac in the water.

Friday I heard my #4 starting and stopping in my tank. When I put my hand in the tank to see if something was stuck in the pump, I got a mild shock. I unplugged the pump and everything was O.K. I e-mailed hydor and they want me to send each pump back for replacement. I bought the pumps back in 2/07 and they have work fine without any problems until now.

Put one lead in the water, and the other to something that is grounded. If you get anything over 90 volts you have real potential, and start unplugging things until the voltage drops off. |

If I was superstitious, I would say this thread is cursed. Read it a couple days ago and the next day my 4 stopped. I reached in to fix it and got a mind shock!

I have had 4 and 3 do the voltage leak. I no longer use them. They were not old and not part of the last recall but still leaked. How I knew they kept tripping the GFCI, then finally I was shocked.

Was there only a recall of the 4's by hydro or were the 3's also included in the voltage leak. I would like to buy some and was going to go with the 3's. Sounds like the company is aware of an issue so I would assume their engeneers would fix the problem asap with new batches of pumps.
Switching from seio's. Anyone recommend against it now. |

Are you going to use the cheap natural wave powerstip wavemaker with the airline mod.

I went to the new seio prop pump same flow as the 4 and smaller. Seems better built grounded cord, ceramic shaft and strong mag.
CS should be good if product is shocking people. Use a GFCI as you will not get shocked power will shut off until problem is found. |

at 7.5watts that seio prop 1000 is more efficient too.
i removed my seio 820 when i got the second k3, to many people had big trouble with taam rio pumps. i did like the seio's threaded housing much better than hydor's twist & lock which is difficult to open. the koralia is UL listed, seio's aren't and it seems hydor came up with a better wavemaker/pump system which won't eventually burn out the pump. i've heard of to many problems with the seio pump/seio controller and i want my next one on a controller. the new controllable koralia pumps are low voltage so i'm not that concerned about voltage leaks. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...m?pcatid=18915 of course there's always the upcoming smaller vortech mp20 if they prove to be a waste of money, which is why i'm in no hurry to buy.
