I think this is the link tswifty was talking about. This guy used some netting. He even has pictures showing lighting with eggcrate and with the netting.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...5&pagenumber=2 I plan on doing this on my tank

I think the key thing he did is offset 2 separate pieces of the netting to make the openings smaller

I am also looking into how to stop fish from jumping out as I have a small Japanese Dragon Moray coming soon. I have a Millaris in there now and he hasn't jumped. So I was thinking of going with the egg crate because if I use the netting I feel like an eel could wriggle it's way through the netting. I have one of those oak canopys and the lights sit directly on top of the tank. Can you put PC's directly on top of the egg crate without it melting the plastic? I really would lose my s*** if I found my new eel slithering on the hardwood floors. Would not be a cheap lose. Thanks, Tim

Tim, for your size fish, egg crate is likely to work. BUT, it is light weight and an eel could take it off in no time. You will need to find a way to secure it. But, half inch fish can get through egg crate despite the posting above; the most discouraging thing is finding fish stuck in the egg crate. Bradleyj devised a nice top, if you research his postings, he has a picture. In my case, I have canopies on all tanks and acrylic tops. If you want, you can do tops and drill 1/4 inch holes. PITA, but it works.

I am thinking about your PC holding egg crate down. Which kind of egg crate are you getting? Acrylic or plastic? And I am not sure that PC lights weigh enough to keep the eel in. They are escape artists for sure.
