Why?
Because I love tangs.
They're my favorite marine fish (aside from the Imperator Angel and yellow butterfly which I will never own).
I had a mimic tang in a 75g. Had him since he was 2 inches, he was yellow with blue rings around his eyes and lips and body outline. He changed colors sometimes, eventually becoming an adult and attaining his adult markings, which were awesome.
I had him for eight years. And I bet I would've had him for ten if i hadn't of had to move away.
As far as what I fantasize about having, I like the purple tang most, also like the Kole tang, the atlantic blue, and the chevron, but that said, i love them all. Tangs are so cool looking with so many variations in markings. And their temperaments are so fab is the thing I like. For instance, If one had to pick one kind of salt water wish to hang out with, it'd be the tang for me.
Like, if I took each kind of fish out to dinner, here's how it would go down I think;

Angel (large)---Yes, it's true, I am so great, I prefer to be revered, now please fetch me some caviar, beluga preferrably, and make sure your quick about it, I don't wanna have to piddle around noshing on your corals all day."

Angel (centropyges)---"I'm gonna swim around and steal everyone's dinner, and let them try and stop me! Ahaha...ahaha. Ahahahahah..."

Butterfly---Oh no, what to do, there's something in my way here on the floor. I can't step over it myself, as I'm to delicate. I hope I don't come down with some awful disease while I'm waiting for you to pick it up for me. By the way can you tone down the talking. Your harshing my mellow....and I might contract a awful disease. *cough*"

Trigger---"Who do I have to **** to get some food around here? How 'bout I just eat this table...yeah, heh heh, hope I don't get too hungry and eat a butterfly by accident. *knocks over table*"

Wrass: "You gonna eat that?" 'How bout that...you gonna eat the rest of that?"

Tang: Weee. I'm gonna swim around until dinner, i'll just have a light salad for now and a glass o' white. Maybe later we'll have a little snack *wink*. I just wanna swim around, oops excuse me there mr waiter, sorry....weeeee. Uh oh, there's Mr. bully trigger at 3 o'clock...vrooom...missed ya, tee hee. Let's see how fast I can swim over flame angel....vroooom...*pecks glass*

To answer the question about Purple Tangs & The Red Sea, there is an Atlantic blue tang that can be very easily confused with the Red Sea Purple Tang. The Red Sea ones are Zebrasoma, the Atlantic ones are Acanthurus.

I think the Atlantic blue is sometimes confused with a Regal blue tang or Pacific tang.

Hmmmmm, it is displaying my name as the thread started again. I'm a little confused by this I may have to contact one of the admins to see if they can explain it.

Great work on those Kar!!

(fwiw, Acanthuridae is the Family of all the Tang genera, not to be confused with Acanthurus, one of those genera.)
