LR looking dirty?

I just set up my tank up 3 days ago nanocube 12 and my rock is starting to look dirty, is this normal?

its just too early to even think about anything yet, let the tank cycle, and when it has then re-post if you still have issues

I'm guessing you put in white dead rock? If so, it turning brown is only natural.. It will go from brown, to green to pink/purple (coraline algae) If you're wanting to have white rock, take it out of the tank.... forever.

uhhhhh..... what are you talking about? Tank lights can be on as late as you want them to be. It's the amount of time they're on that matters. However in a tank this young it really isn't going to make much difference whether there is light or not.

I started with all dead white rock as well. I currently have a "dirty" looking brown algae growing on the rocks... I have been told by local people it is all part of the new tank cycle... It looks bad but just let it grow... if it is still a problem after the cycle, get a cleanup crew to clear up the issue

when the guy said only keep the lights on during the day like emulate the day, thats bs right, cuz i work during the day look at night?

We get into this field hobby to buy stuff to emulate the ocean and emulate the chemical properties, emulate ocean waves but then you do not emulate the light?....... gimmie the break. I bet you are stressing your fish out.

I think you can train your fish to be on a different cycle but thats only if the room they are in has no windows.

Just try and keep your lights on about 8 to 10 hours per 24 hours. Less time when you start to have an algea outbreak.

You'll also have to learn to weed through some of the advise given here.
