RO/DI waste water plumbing

I am remodeling my basement. I found a perfect corner for my RO/DI setup. My problem is that the nearest drain is about 15 feet away. I want to keep the setup in this corner because it is right under the floor of my tank. I want to be able to automate my water changes with the 2 65gal barrels I have and pump the water straight up to the tank. Can I run waste water line from my RO/DI unit to the drain which is 15 feet away? I wasn't sure if there was a limit.

Thanks,

Paul

I agree with the others as long as there is no back pressure on the line it should be fine 15ft or 45ft away.

Hi Paul,

I often run my drain 30ft away to fill up a fresh water tank.

You will be fine. Just don't restrict it or you change the waste ratio and flushing of the membrane. As long as you stay at the same elevation or lower it should not be a problem though.

Hey Ray! Thanks I am getting ready to use my 65 gallon barrels finally. I am actually gong to have the output into the barrels directly below the unit, only a couple feet. The waste water is my problem since the drain (sink or floor) is about 12-15 feet away.

AZ,
Can I have the waste water line elevated at all? I was going to mount the RO/DI unit high on the wall and then feed the wast water line up in the ceiling and then down to the drain. The wast water line would have to go up probably 6-12".

A few feet won't matter. Just rememberfor every 2.31 feet of vertical rise you add 1 pound of backpressure. If it drops back down on the other end the rise kind of cancels itself out though and all that comes into play is the C factor or flow resistance in the 1/4" line. If it was going to be a real long distance I would suggest stepping up to 3/8" line but 15 feet won't matter.

Thanks AZ. I should be ok then. I will be going up 12" max and then across 15 feet and down 8. I will make sure the 12" up is not a straight vertical shot. I will put it at 45 degree.
