Anemones And Coral Together

STILL LEARNING!!EVEN WITH MY 200 GALLON TANK.I GOT 2 ROSE ANEMONES ( LAST WEEK) AND I HAVE HAD A CONDYLACTIC ANEMONE ( 1YEAR) i JUST ALSO GOR A RITTERI ANEMONE. I DID NOT KNOW HOW BIG THE POTENTIAL IS FOR IT.. I DO HAVE CORALS. I HAD TRIED TO PLACE IT OVER IN ONE AREA OF MY TANK, BUT OF COURSE, IT FLOATED UP AND WENT WHERE IT WANTED TO.IT IS OK NOW FOR THE SIZE THAT IT IS, BUT WHEN IT GROWS, IF IT GETS TOO CLOSE TO MY CORALS, WHAT CAN I DO? I REALLY DID NOT REALIZE HOW AGGRESSIVE THE BOOKS SAID IT COULD BE.WILL IT HURT MUSHROOMS, FROGSPAWN?

I have a rose anemone in my reef tank. It doesn't move at all so no problems; however, if you have one that moves, it will sting the other corals. I've read that the sting may cause other corals to die.

First off, I dont think anyone would recommend multipul species of anenomes in the same tank as they will compete with each other for territory. Also, your RBTA (rose anenome) will move wherever it wants to, and very potentialy kill anything that happens to be where it wants to live. Ive lost several pieces of SPS due to my RBTA moving in the night and being right on top of them in the morning when I find it.

What lights do you have? A Ritteri is one of the most light demanding host anemones, along with being one of the hardest ones to keep.

SEVERAL ANEMONES IN 200 GALLON

MY 2 ROSE ANEMONES HAVE BEEN STAYING PUT, EACH ONE AT THE END OF THE TANK.200 GALLON. I HAVE (3) 250 WATT MOGUL HAMILTON BULBS , MY TANK IS 30" DEEP. tHE OTHER ANEMONE i HAVE HAS NOT TRIED TO MOVE , IT IS BEING RUBBED UP TO BY THE ROSE, WHY DOESN'T IT MOVE?iT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT LIKES IT, IT IS HARD TO TELL. SHOULD i PRY IT OFF OF THE ROCK THAT IT HADS BEEN ON FOR 3 MONTHS?THE OTHER PROBLEM IS THE RITTERI SEEMS TO LIKE WHERE IS IS NOW, AFTER 2 DAYS. BUT AS IT WILL GROW, IT WILL EVENTUALLY COME UP TO MY DAISY CORAL AND FROGSPAWN IN A FEW MONTHS TIME. I AM ASSUMING IT WILL HURT ANYTHING IT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH?I DID NOT KNOW WAHT I WAS GETTING INTO, SHOULD HAVE READ UP FIRST.

If you have the room once they get set move the corals away from them. Way easier than moving the anemones. Either way once they grow and split you may have to get rid of some of them. They will eventually kill corals but some are more sensitive than others.

no need to pry the anemone off a rock--you could do more damage--they will move on there own if conditions are not favorable to them

Some people have no trouble keeping corals and anemones together, but it certainly doesn't work with the BTA clones I have-- they reproduce often and get huge. As far as keeping different species together, you are gambling there. If you can keep them apart it's usually not a problem but if they touch they will do serious battle. Rather than prying the anemones off their rocks, it's better to move the entire rock they are attached to. Even then, there's no guarantee that they won't walk back to the area they liked before.

p.s. As Capn' mentioned, it's a good idea to release the caps lock on your keyboard.

I agree with this advice.

I do keep Entacemea quadricolor(rose bubble tips) in an lps tank. I have had to box them in with rocks and harvest them several times over the past 4 yrs. They did battle some with Euphylia(hammers.frogspawn and torches) but always backed away when the euphylia stung them. They don't like my plerogyraa(buble coral) either. They so not harm my mushrooms. They keep palythoas closed and will harm sps and chalice corals as well as favids and caulastrea,,in my experience.

I did the whole BTAs in a reef tank together before. Long story short, I ended up selling all of the BTAs.

The only anemone/s I will keep with corals now a days are sand dwelling ones.

A rose bubble tip is a BTA that is red or orange in color. The species name isEntacemea quadricolor. My anemone has split several times over the years. From the original I have had eight. By harvesting, I meant getting them out of the tank without harming them so they would not overrun it and making them available to other reefers.

my LFS has alot of different anemones in one tank & they have the tank lined w/ small ceramic planting pots propped up at an angle. the anemones each stay in their new homes & coexist quite well....is this a vaible option to keep them from moving around & harming corals??

that's probably okay for short term residence at a LFS store but in the long run as in your display tank you run the risk of them moving whenever they decide they want to.
If you are lucky enough when you introduce them to your tank they will find a spot that has the light and flow they like and stay there as long as you don't change those variables
