You'll be wishing you had more tank for that N. vlamingi in less than 6 months....

Since this is a great collection of tang-keepers, I figured I'd come straight to the source.
Does anyone have a tang that you have witnessed to eat hair algae, most specifically derbesia (not to be confused with bryopsis)?

My new tank was cycling and I had a massive bloom, and between the tang (and rabbit fish) the tank was completely turned around in 2-3 weeks. Here he is eating off the wall: ![]() As you can see, it was bad. Maybe one of these pics will help you pin point if this is the right kind of hair algae you need help with: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Oh, can I play along? Tangs are by far my favorite fish and the reason I got into the hobby.
My camera skills aren't the best, but I'm trying to figure out all the buttons on my xti. My blue hippo: ![]() My late sohal: ![]() This fish was a very reluctant purchase, but I watched it sit in the store for about 5 weeks. It ate very well, but kept losing weight. I had it about a year before I lost it. ![]() Not a great shot of my Tomini: ![]() And finally, some of them together: ![]()

A chance shot from today. I was adding a few new SPS colonies, and the Vlamingi was hiding beneath a rock shelf. The change of colors this fish displays from feeding, to grazing, and then again to night time colors are amazing.

Its something I am considering for a 220gal upgrade. The disadvantage of the back reef is that fish can hide behind it ot much--and one of the joys of reefing is watching the fish in action. I'll post a full tank shot of my below
