We estimated the tank to weight about 4-5 thousand pounds, with water, sand & rock. I asked the stand to be build to hold 8 thousand pounds just to be on the safe side

you're not the 1st person to say that. I think it will much easier to maintain the tank with everything in one place. I currently maintain both tanks now. Ed see's how difficult it is to do the water changes on the tanks and I think he lost interest in his FOWLR tank so he decided to cross over! He is such a good guy!

Update
The stand is almost complete, this afternoon we will paint it with Kils and hopefully Saturday the tank will be placed on the stand.
The drywall (greenbaord) should be finished today and we will be putting FRB board up today and Friday. The sumps & sand for the tank is here too. The light rack is being made as we speak. Ed modified the rack a little so we are waiting for the parts to be delivered. That too will be in place before the tank is installed. I really don't want to work over the tank if you know what I mean.

Hi Ed,
YES, finally we see that the end is near! Today we will start sanding the walls and painting them with Kilz. Ed wants to frame the tank opening with the FRB baord too. I'm sure all this will be done while watching the football game! Ed thinks we could have the tank in place by Friday! I can't wait!

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENNED!
Ed and I were working on the room today. I begged him to please let's look at the tank. I have not see it yet! Just this Hugh box in our driveway.
We were looking and looking, everything was going PERFECT, UNTIL.............. I noticed the cover to the over flow box looked loose, like not attached, I thought no big deal.... So I moved the box cover just a little bit, and at that monument, my heart stopped beating. There it was a CRACK in the overflow box. we are going to call the company in the morning to see what they have to say. Ed thinks we can cut out that side and replace the glass. If that is all that needs to be done I think we have to wait 20 something day before we can add water Just when I thought everything was going smooth......

We too are nervous when we have NEW friends over. However, our friends know to break AWAY FROM THE TANK! If not we politely put away all the pool sticks

Worst case would be to cut out a piece of glass and stick it to the bottom. I used to have a tank like that that crack due to me over tightening the bulkhead and it works pretty well.

I'm just so upset, just when we were so close to seeing the end. I hope it is a simple fix. I could not even imagine having to have a new tank built and then delivered AND then waiting another 20 day to let the seams cure. With the holidays so close, this is just a disaster to me. I guess the good part is the room will be completely done with every thing in place when the new tank is delivered. Today the stucco is beiing applied to the outside of the room.

Sorry to hear about the crack and I know how you feel. If it were me, I would go to a local glass shop and have them cut a piece that would cover the crack, then use silicone to adhere it over the cracked area inside the overflow where it would be out of site. I believe that would keep it from cracking anymore and maintain the function of the overflow. The silicone should cure in a a day or two so you aren't out of a lot of time.

thanks for your concern..... You are correct.. Ed called the Mfg. and is exactly what they suggested to do, they are sending the replacement glass as we speak... Also, someone in our local reef club who does maintenance on aquariums came over this morning to look at the crack, he also said the same thing. so it looks like we just slowed down for a few days. thank goodness.

Wow! What an odd place to have a crack, it's not a load bearing point from the shipping. Kinda strange?
At least GC sent a fix for you, and I have to believe that it'll be Ok as it is inside the tank. Makes me a bit nervous, as I am preparing to order a tank fro GC very soon. That whole build em ship em and let em cure in your hands seems to be GC's MO. Did you water test it yet?

That's terrible about your tank, Sandy - a real bummer. From the pics, it definitely looks repairable. I can imagine it was quite a blow (no pun intended). But very soon it'll be repaired and good as new. Plus, I'll bet there's plenty to do in the mean time.
