no i did not run it in vinegar over night. scrubbed it real good and ran it in the vinegar for about an hour. i was too excited. do you have the output tube completely submerged? right now the bubble levek in the skimmer keeps fluctuating. its probably just part of the break in. i just dont know if i should submerge the output or not.

looks good. The you will like it I am sure as it breaks in your will no longer get any micro bubbles coming out. I kept the exit tubing so it didnt go below the water level.

Why don't you let the output go into the water? Does it make more bubbles if you do? The reason im asking is i really have no experience with any skimmer other then a coralife 65!! Im going to need every bit of info i can get.

well it helps so you dont build up back pressure . If you get an air pocket it can restrict the output of the skimmer and cause some fluctuations in foam levels in the skimmer. Not always but it does happen. You will be fine. it will be broke in a couple days I am sure.

Yes it would be fine. However to be quite honest when you get up to that price you might want to consider the octo extreme/msx 200. Both would work fine. Its just matter of self preference. Good luck.

i've been reading back in forth between the two i am leaning more toward msx 200 cause i don't like how bubble plate sits up so high in vertex skimmer

its all about design, the vertex has a longer neck and has a gentle transition upward to the cup. So its a bit different. The msx has more time in the reaction chamber. Just two different theories. good luck with your descision. I think that the in 100 is a great skimmer for the price. But its hard to compete with the price of the msx 200 for what you get.

i had an msx 200 and i was not at all happy with the sicce pump. the pump was noisy and i hated messing with the mesh. the pinwheel only pulled 26-28 scfh. the in-180 i am very happy with so far. it is very quiet and the pump pulls 32 scfh with the pinwheel. it is already producing a nice thick foam head. this is just my .02 cents though so i dont mean to step on any toes.

not a problem you guys just keep posting pics wife won't let me buy till after xmas unless i did a bill me later but there is only one store online that does vertex skimmer through bill me later and that is marine depot, they just started selling vertex skimmers. If i could find a store that sold msx 200 through bill me later i would do it not so i have to wait till after xmas or tax returns just got 2 new t5 fixtures this year and one of them recently.

so i will keep reading on progress and reviews between vertex and msx cause i'm limited on space and 180 will fit easily and msx will just barely fit.
