Do they still get similar PAR readings, just at a lower height?
I am not too sure. I know Mike has his at the same height he had the others. I would think you still would get good par at 17-18 inches from bulb to water. If you are going to supliment your lighting with t5s or VHOs then you can get away with 16inches from bulb to water and spread them apart a little.

I just installed a finished black SE Lumen Bright pendant over my 60 gallon prop tank and that thing is amazing!!! Just to the eye, it is so much brighter than my previous reflector.

Pendants have come a long way from the old PFO spider reflectors. I remember when spiders were the thing to get!

Yes - I was going to continue to run supplementas - so with only 18 inches in width, the smaller pendants would be preferrable.

I am going to give those wide minis a try. I am happy with the curren light that I get, but if I can get the same or better results with 250W less, then it is worth a shot.

Thanks!

Cool! What are the dimensions of the 60? Mini or full sized pendant? Pics?

Carlos, I hope you reduced your photo period significantly, so you don't bleach your corals. The difference over my tank was 300% over the previous lighting.

Welcome to the club.

Thought I'd post some pics of my new light setup from reefspecialty.

Lumenbright minis
Coralvue dimable ballasts

These things are bright! The Bulbs are about 15" from the water. The spread is fine, doesn't look like light beams at all.

The color is actually a little bit more blue then I would've liked. I've heard the color will change after about a week or two. We shall see.

The install was pretty easy. Took some time but not too bad. I messed up on two of the wire connectors and had to make a trip to Home Depot to replace them.

I don't have a PAR meter so I have no idea how much light is punching through. So far it seems like it will be plenty.

Looks good thechad21. Nice and clean, very professional. The blue will turn to a brighter white once they burn in. Your closed loop with the Oceans motion 4way looks great, one of the cleanest and well executed I have seen for going over a tank. Did you build the canopy?

Thanks! I designed the stand and canopy and had them built by a cabinet builder. I suck at wood working.

Well, it's been about 6 months for me with 2 minis over my 90 and the 250watt 12k's. I have never been happy with the color. There is no room at all for actinics. I want to try a bluer bulb and maybe I'll be happier with that. I love what I hear about the SE Radiums but heard they only last about 6 months on the coralvue ballast. They are too expensive to be replacing every 6 months.

Why don't you have room for actinics? They should fit underneath the reflectors or between them.

What bulbs are you currently using?

If you get a good deal on your bulbs, every six months won't be so unbearable. I'm always watching our club's group buys to score more bulbs. At $35 each, I don't mind changing them more frequently.

Hi all~

I have plan to use Lumen Bright pendant with 250w radium bulb + galaxy ballast.

Could you tell the height recommandation from water surface?
Because it is 20K bulb, I think the height is different from other 12K bulb. My tank height is 20inches (50cm)

Thanks...

Same height as usual - 16" to 18" from the bulb to the water.

Do you mean how hot do they get? With mine on for hours, I can put my hand on the metal reflector's housing (I have the black finished kind) and it is merely warm to the touch. The heat under the glass shield is notable, but not so much that I couldn't work in my tank for a while under them.

Having them up high helps with the heat issues normally present. I had mine on for the past few hours with just ambient room temperature in the fishroom and the Icecap fans off (accidentally). The tank temp never got over 81F.

I have 4 large lumen bright se reflectors and my tank so from 79 to 82.5 in about 6 hours. I havent installed a fan yet but I have them set to turn off when the tank gets to 82.5. My bulbs are 15 to 16 inches from the surface, 400w bulbs.

I have the Reeflux 12k's - great growth but too white. Given the size of the reflectors, I don't have room for actinics as these reflectors are essentially the area of each side of the 90. Both domes hang over each side of the center brace. Where would actinics fit? I would love to put 2 110watt VHO actinics, but they wouldn't even be over the tank. Here is a pic.

Giant, this is how I did mine:

I lose a little of the LBs, but not much. I used the Icecap reflectors. The nice thing about them is that you can have them clip to the t5s and direct them where you would like.

What is the white inside of the canopy, is it just regular white paint? I have a new stand/canopy on order and I was wondering if there is something to put in the canopy that is fire retardant.
