Killing Zoas!!!
I probably should put this in the Zoa Form, but very few people read it. Sooooo
My nano is being over run with what was once a "cute" zoa that has morphed into a fast growing weed. I have tried Joe's Juice and even injecting them with 2N NaOH. They are the Andromeda Strain ![]() Any suggestions on controlling them short of tearing the rocks apart?? Thanks. R |

Taging along. I have some Zoa's in my tank. I like them, but I am noticing some new growth in other areas of the tank. So, I am going yo be in the same boat as well.

We go to great extremes to promote coral growth.
Be careful what you wish for. I have one tank that GSP are over running and killing the Montipora Caps. I have another tank that Montipora Dig is over growing my Acro. And those pesky Zoas just like to grow like weeds. Do they make RoundUp for aquariums?? ![]() |

I'd turn the negative in to a positive and start fragging like crazy. sell'em and give them away. Make some extra money.

I have tried Joe's juice on some pesky zoa's and they just close up for a day or so then come back. I then tried Aiptasia X on the same zoa's and it did kill them. Not sure why. Thought they were both the same thing? Try that?

Not sure about the original poster but these are the ones that I have to stop (brown ones). I think they are actually paly's (button polyps). This started as a single polyp. Can't even count how many there are now. They've overgrown and killed one head of the trumpet next to it. I have to periodically beat them back.

I have something similar that I'm trying to control. THings are out of control and last night I found them spread in two place that they never even touched.
I did stop the spread in one direction by placing another solid zoa colony on one side. You can always try to surround it with other zoa colonies. I wish I could take out some Green Mushrooms. I thought I killed a bunch and then wham ... sprouting again. |

When you say Lime Juice, are you talking about Lime Water or actual Lime Juice from a lime?

It has been said that I am "an electrifying guy", but that was a long time ago
![]() I will try the zapper this weekend. If you don't hear from me I used too much voltage. ![]() I worry that if you don't kill every fragment of the zoa a new one will just appear. |
