New additions! Looky!

I visited an LFS I'd never been to yesterday. They had a mandarine in every tank, all were very healthy. I've always wanted one, so I asked about what they eat, knowing that they are difficult to keep. The guy dropped a frozen blood worm block into each tank, and the fish went crazy. Then I watched mezmerized as a mandarine ate the blood worms. I left the store empty handed but grinning ear to ear.

After church, i dragged the family to the store and showed them our new fish. here it is acclimating. I'll get a photo of it after I release it.

I also bought a peppermint shrimp. Here it is acclimating.

I just let him go and he's disappeared behind the rocks. Oh man, I am on cloud nine! I hope he does well in my tank. It's over 5 years established, quite stable, I've seen pods in the fuge, and I've seen this very fish eat blood worms.

I also asked the employee about the difference between aptaisia and other anemones. He gladly showed me a patch of aptaisia, which I recognized. Then showed me a couple of tube anemones. That's what the strange critter is at the base of the rock. I'm so relieved!

And she is RELEASED! I am so crazily excited and the kids don't understand. They are just shaking their heads as if I am only crasy!

I just dropped in a bloodworm cube. I've never fed my fish that before. They are curious and cautious, but getting braver by the second. The mandarine is just sitting on the rock, looking around. But looking well. Oooh! I just saw it peck at the rock.

If bloodworms have the correct nutrients, what would be wrong with feeding it? High protein, clean food...

I'm not 100%, to be honest. I remember reading an article or two on Wetwebmedia (I think) about bloodworms and how they're not right for SW. Let's do some research on this and continue the discussion?!

Congrats on the new little Mandie. You should see it do alot of pecking from here on out. They do love thier pods and feed on them constantly as well as provide you with a lot of entertainment watching them hunt the rock work looking for them.

That's a Beautiful Mandarin
I have one and it eats at feeding time with the other fish. I've seen it take a frozen shrimp on occasion but mine especially likes the blood worms. The rest of the day he spends searching the tank for pods. I'm glad it takes the blood worms because I don't have to worry so much about it not getting enough to eat.

That's exactly why I was so excited to see it eating at the LFS. I just figured it would be a fantasy to ever own one. Now I'm living the fantasy!

It reminds me of a humming bird.
