I would try to have them so they touch in the middle. This should give you optimal lighting by less bleed and more crossover. You should have enough crossover light that you shouldn't see the shadow from the brace. I would try to get the most out of your lighting while still being pleasurable to view. Are those 250s or 175s? Are you planning on keeping SPS?

I have him about half way to the top of the tank and I have the dimmable ballasts turned down to about 50%.

[B]Yes, I have. My tank is 30" tall, and I have both 250w and 400w bulbs. Here's one picture from the page on my site: Melev, how tall is your sand bed, I'm assuming 6 inches? My tank height will be 29.5 total. Water depth will be at max 26.5 inches on top of the 2 inch sand bed. I don't want to make the jump to 400W bulbs if its not neccesary. Looking at your PAR readings the 400W is about the same as the 250... although its a comparison of a 10K bulb to a 20K bulb so there will be a difference. The original plan was to use 3 250 Watt Reeflux 12K supplemented heavily with T-5's. (possibly six rows of 39 watts). Does anyone think this will be sufficient? Or is the switch to planning for 400 Watts imminent? (stocking plans are clams and SPS) |

JR... I just called RS and he said I have to raise my octo skimmer to 8" of water( its in 10.5" now. he also said to drill a hole in the 90 for relief of water pressure. how big of a hole should i drill? I just removed the 90 and the 6" pc that goes down until I raise it up

![]() My sandbed is roughly 4" deep. When you take a 30" InterAmerican tank, you have to substract for the 3/4" bottom panel as well as the eurobracing at the top. I think the actual water height from the bottom to the lip of the bracing is 27" to 28" tall, and the water is about 1" under the eurobracing. That is why it looks like 24" to the substrate. |

Thanks guys, think I'm going to go with 3 400W Lumen Brights, Reeflux 12K bulbs, Dimmable Ballast, supplemented with 4 rows of 2 X 39W T-5 for the "pop factor". I appreciate your input greatly!

Sounds like your going to have yourself a nice setup. Will you be doing a build thread for your future setup?

Already going... here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1515150
Trying to get a website going also, but work and end of the semester cramming is putting a damper on things.

Between 8"and 9" seems to be the sweet spot. I really wouldn't advise running it any less than 8" depth either.

I need some thoughts/help on my lighting... I set up my tank right when the LB were coming out. It's a mixed reef 60x36x30, 12k reeflux 400w w/ LB LARGE 16" above water (bulb @ 19")
The issue is I love LPS (scoly, brain, hammer, lobo) but any lps I put halfway up begins to bleach which is crimping my style. Another issue is I have corcea clams at the bottom (30" depth) and want sps near the top so I'm concerned about their health. Would raising the LB/bulbs a few inches even do anything? Should I just downgrade to 250w and would my clams be ok? (this might open up the ability to add 2-3 actinic T5's) Is there something else I'm missing? 7month old bulbs now. Thanks!

Yes, lifting them up higher will help decrease PAR. Or you could try a 250w bulb as you suggested.
