Can I cover 48x48 with two large 400w LB's? I currently cover it now with two 400w L3's.

I don't want to have 5 bulbs to replace. Three is enough.
![]() I don't have anything in the front 8" and some low light stuff along the back. I think we can make two large work. I'll have to get you over here. |

No, they stay at that height. Perhaps 8 months from now, you could lower them one or two inches to get more life out of the same bulbs, thus keeping the same PAR value. Then when it is time to replace the bulbs, the reflectors are raised back up to their original height.

With a PAR meter, you'd have that answer. Most people try to use their bulbs about 12 months, I believe. If you are changing them out more frequently, then leaving them at the same height would be your best bet.

ok, JR..you've had awesome advise for the Reeflo 250 I've got, now I am thinking a nice xmas present would be a lighting upgrade. I am running 4 x 250W 14k MH's on ARO elect ballasts....over my 450g tank with simple spider reflectors. The tank is 30" deep. I was trying to decide between the Lumnenarc and the LB reflector as I think I'll get better growth from my SPS near the top/mid of the tank. ANy thoughts on the difference between the two?
Thanks! |

the tank is 8' x 30" deep, and 36" wide...I had 4 holes put on top, each is 17" x 24". This is an in-wall tank. Seems then like the LB is more of a spot light, good for 2" width tanks?

4 LB larges would be optimal for your tank. The LB minis are good up to 30" wide tanks and the Largest seem to be good for up to 38"-40" wide tanks.

just to be clear, even though you said that the Lumenarc 3 was a wider spread, you're saying you'd go with the large LB for my tank at 36" width?

There is no chance in hell that my corals would grow that fast in a year. Still trying to figure out the secret. They grow longer pretty good. Just not branching or fatter.

Quick question - I've got a 156g tank which is 60x24x24. Brand new, so it's just starting out (nothing in it - yet!).
I'm getting 3 Lumenbright 3 mini's, and I'd like to know how high above the tank I should hang them, and how far apart I should space them. I'll be doing mainly SPS, but I'd like to be able to do just about anything else too. Thanks! -Scott |

Scott, you didn't state the wattage of the bulbs, but 16" is a pretty safe bet from the bulb to the water.
The reflectors should be evenly spaced across that 60", do the center of each one would be at 10", 30" and 50" roughly speaking. Obviously you can tailor that to how it lights your tank best. |

hey JR...I just noticed the RS sent me 15K bulbs instead of 12K. I looked at the bulbs before they were turned on because as I turn them on one is a different color so i tried to read the bulbs and noticed they have 15K written on them. is 15K ok?

Now I'm really confused. I was going to hang mine today at 18. Guess I will just experiment. 250 refflux 12k X3 over 84x24x30 with 6in sand bed. Both ends will be in the shade as I will place the three together in the middle of the tank. |
