thats what my gut is sayin..get the 180 i'm just concerned about space, and i'm concerned about the overkill factor...is there such a thing? My tank is on the heavy side for bio load..any one else?

no overkill factor, most people like to use oversize skimmers especially if you have heavy bioload, so people are big time fish lovers and have alot of fish so in that case it is better for tank to have a big skimmer. i have mine in a 11.5 X 13.5 compartment and being 24 inches tall just barely fit under my stand in my sump.

thanks for the feed back , thanks for the feedback- I think i'll go with the 180. Do you give yours a rinse in vinegar before running?

both will work, I think the 100 is a better match for your system but if you have room the 180 will work just as well and you will have a gigger skimmer if you ever upgrade

I got the 100 in a 75g w/30g sump, But either way it is alot of skimmer for the money. I don't see why more fish shops don't offer these instead of the coralife. But you never know it may be just a matter of time before we see these for sale locally.

The review was done with the 100 on a 75 with a 30g sump. I think you will be pleased with the 10. I cant say about the 180 as I havent seen one. But the 100 would do fine i think. It needs about a 7 in water level to run well

Just joined the Vertex skimmer club. This is my first "real" skimmer and is going on a 75g setup w/ a 20 long sump. I hope to have it tomorrow. But we'll see, still have a long ways to go on this build.

thanks for the tip on the water level- i don't use a top off system, i have one, but i don't use it due to space. My sump level fluctuates at most from 10-12 inch deep. I'm going to try and create some type of stand to keep it submerged 7-8 inches. I think i read previously of people using pvc and egg crate? something of that sort- maybe acrylic....thanks for the info though
any recommendations?

put in a bafe 7 inches high before your return pump. That way your skimmer stays in the same water level. If not you will be adjusting it all the time.

Does anyone have performance pics?

I would say that is accurate. The cylinder is 6" diameter. So add the pipe to one side would give you 8 and hte pump would add 4 for 10 the other direction. Pretty accurate.

So I see 7 inches is the ideal depth for this skimmer. How much of a problem will I have if its only in 6 inches of water?

I got my IN100 this evening! I took a bunch of pictures that I'll try to remember to post later. Bit of a bummer, though, the collection cup is all speckled. I sent a note to PA and hope they can get me a new one. If not, I think that it's just a cosmetic issue (Someone please let me know if I'm wrong). I haven't tried the pump out, yet; I'll probably work on that tomorrow.

I believe I read earlier in the thread that 6-8" of water is okay. It shouldn't be a problem to have it at 6" as long as the water level is stable at that depth.

My IN-100 has a bit of trouble at 6" - it works, but it does much better at 7"

I have a new Impeller coming from MD - My original stopped once and I had to "un-freeze" it; since, it's been good and the skimmer is a gem. Certainly the best buy of my entire $5500 tank set up (works better, for this tank, than my Deltec did).

My collection cup is crystal clear, you should ask for a new one!
