Lookie what I got!
(ignore the bubbles, I have a K3 running in a 20G with an air stone = bubble storm!) In QT with my Ocellaris pair.. the sole survivors of the power outage disaster.

Thanks He's a neat fish. The markings on the Kole are very interesting, I thought for the longest time that they were a drab fish with yellow "eyeliner," but now I know better! I hope everything works out with him.

Canopy removed, most of the water removed, half of the sand removed and pushed to the right side: AKA Disgusting, back-breaking work
Rinsing 200lbs of sand... one bucket at a time... Half of the sand done... All 200lbs of the sand rinsed and ready to go! Scrubbed, scraped, squeegeed... *faints* I needed an extra dose of pain meds for my back after all of this!

Glad you got it done. Looks like you are ready to get it up again. What is the plan for future power outages? |

looks great babe! Nice shiney new tank. I know that my pictures don't turn out very clear, because my acrylic is never as clear as the glass tanks.

I believe Acrylic is supposed to have better clarity than glass... but I get what you're saying Rae.
Schwe... Great work! That Kole Tang sure looks nice too.

Haha! Thanks everyone. Pete got in on the action and helped me put the sand back IN today. I also picked up some eggcrate to put on the bottom of the tank in case of sand-sifter catastrophes. I've had enough trajedy for the year, I don't want a broken tank next!
AKA: trying to do things better the second time around.

I was looking at the QT with the LR I got from a reefer and noticed this alien creature...
After the flash went off, it jumped back in its hole. It's like some kind of thick-skinned worm that inverts itself and spits its body out as it stretches, and at the very longest a set of gills like a feather duster comes out, and then it sucks it back in... Creepy... HUGE Stomatella LR waiting to back in the tank Snail survivors

Egg Crate
200lbs of sand Adding water over a garbage bag has proven to be the best method for reducing cloudiness. This is what 20 gallons of water looks like in a 90 gallon tank... *cries*

Thanks for the ID, Marc! Even though he's a friendly guy, he's still creepy.

Finally... Progress!
Preliminary rockwork (there is 15lbs in the QT that will also be added) I also hope to buy more rock a little bit at a time to beef up my coral real estate. On a funny note... Today I discovered that "Quarantine Tank" is a misnomer. The appropriate term should be "Tang Spa." I walked into the spare bedroom to find my Kole sitting on top of the air stone, enjoying the bubbles. I ran out of the room to get my camera, but by the time I got back she wasn't there anymore. What I wouldn't give to have gotten that on film!

Just read this whole thread (clearly not much to do at work today) and its given me an idea of what I have in store for me, though I only have a 39g cadlights setup. Still cycling now though nothing noticeable has happened as far as level changes yet (1 week), and waiting in anticipation for the time I can start adding. My heart goes out to you after your loss, but everything looks like it will come even better this time around. Good luck, I will be following along...

As you probably know I'm a fan of the separated scapes, but like you already eluded too... it can get crowded quick with regard to coral scaping. All that means is that only the "best of the best" makes the cut. |
