Downgrading tank

Hi all,

I currently have a 75G system that I started beginning of this year (Tank thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1289687). The initiative was to move from my basic 20G up for more room to allow more fishes and addition for corals. Everything have went well, but due to recent change in circumstances, I have very limited time to take care of the tank enough to expand to corals. On top of that, I am seeing limitation of being in a condo (carpeted floor) for owning a larger tank. It does get messy sometimes especially when accidents occur.

Having that said, I am now considering downgrading to a all-in-one system such as the biocube 29G so that I can still keep my 2 clowns, 5 damsels, few snails, 2 cleaner shrimps, 2 peppermint shrimps and a sand sifting goby.

What's your opinion? Do you think I will end up spending same amount of time or more to take care of the tank? Do you think I'll have problem fitting these guys in it? Any alternative route that maybe I should consider?

Thanks all!
Chris

What kind of damsels?

Regardless, sounds a bit full to me. depending on the cube, they rely on mechanical filtration (as mine does) and the bioload is a bit much. Also, add 1# per gallon of LR and there is not a whole lot of room in there.

Tough spot. Unless your in the mood to do a water change a few times weekly, but even then your not giving the fish much room, or "personal" space in that... will be a bit stressful for them.

If your tank is going to downsize, pick your favourites and downsize the stock as well, IMO anyways.

They are blue chromis.

I have the same feeling about the bioload as well, and because the whole 29G will be in the display area, the tolerance level will be lesser than my current 75G DT + 29G Sump. Perhaps if I should decide to go for the 29G, I should look into taking out 2-3 of the blue chromis as well?

I have a similar set up, and my chromis are aggressive feeders and pigs at that. They would be my first choice to go, would also cut down on req'd feeding for the rest to thrive.

I'm surprised the condo even let you consider a 100g system. Are you on the bottom floor?

There wasn't special approval needed to keep a fish tank in my condo

Should anyone come home to 100 gallons of water pouring through their ceiling, I'm sure they'll be keen to explain it to you. I'm not making any assumptions regarding your responsibility as a reef keeper, I just know how this hobby tends to go for many people. If your system doesn't bring about a change in condo policy, someone else's eventually will. It just surprises me, and given that you have purposefully not informed the condo of your unilateral decision, I have to assume you see my point better than you admit.

Anyway, nice system and keep up the good work!
