I got mine installed on Friday and it's been running good for the last few days- it was a real easy set up, dialling in with the tube was pretty easy, little stiff in movement, but overal it's a solid design.
Did anyone put any silcon on the adjustment tube to make it easier to turn? I've only had one cup skim so far, and it was ok- I didn't rinse with vinegar or anything. Just dropped it in and fired it up. Alot easier than my turbofloat. I have the IN-100

oh not sure if you have an air meter . but the sicce will run backwards and pull less air. it is really hard to tell without a meter. I would of never thought but it does make a huge difference.
Start and stop it a few times with a meter hooked up and you will see. its about a 8 or so scfh difference. I suprised this doesnt get talked about more but it is a downside of these pumps. Sorry off topic but I would like to see the in 180

That WM you have seems like a sweet skimmer. I will probably get their new cone when it's released. I'm also thinking about getting the new Hurricone from Coral Vue, with the Askol 1500.

I think the hurricone is nice. it looks like a modded msx skimmer. The transition is longer and I believe the neck is even bigger to handle the increase in air. Looks promising. Really its oversized for my system though. I will probably downsize to a K1 when it comes out. I will say the vertex is great for the $$$. the build quality is good. But compared to what I have now it night and day. Thats why i say the in 100 is hard to beat for under $200. after the $200 mark the competition starts heating up with the msx octo x line. Hard to beat the msx 200 for $280. And the sicce I have the WM skimmer pulls about 42 scfh on pinwheel. Granted its a cone, so it will have more head pressure on a cylinder skimmer. But probably about 36 or so I would guess. Well time will tell. I am not all about spending a ton of money to get good results. But Don't mind spending the Extra $$ if it gets me what I want. Those of you with the vertex already know that it basically uses the euro reef body. The bubble plate sits a little high for my taste but I think they do that to ensure no microbubbles. the pump could be a better quality even though I didn't have any issues with mine it seems like the quality control on the resun pump could be a little better. PA is awesome and its great to see them taking care of it. Jeremy and Jason are great to deal with. Good luck and looking forward to the comparison.

So you have the WM K2 cone already? Where did you get it?
I feel my Octo X 200 will be for sale soon. Something tells me that the IN 180 will kick his butt in the easier to mantain/better performance category.

I got an early release to review. They are actually finishing up the first batch now I believe. Havent talk to Jon in a couple days. I would be curious too how many watts the in 180 pulls as well.

i hate when new skimmers come out cause makes you want to buy them all, the hurricone looks like it might be a good skimmer but i like the cone skimmers and these vertex and euroreefs cause they have smooth transition for bubbles. I didn't want a skimmer with sicces pumps cause i heard to much stuff about restarts and i don't want to have to mod a skimmer to get good production when vertex skimmers pull 30's already. I think when people mod the skimmers to pull more air you pull alot less water and makes me wonder if the skimmer is filtering enough water.
i wonder what the gph is of all big name skimmers out. I know vertex 180 is a 1000 gph.

Vertex 180 ordered
Premium Aquatics
Vertex 180 $214 Appreciate the thread and all the input and opinions for and ag'in. Considered Octo and EV180. Jason's recs: EV 180 may be more powerful, but in real world use, will tend to go out of adjustment more often, so the Vertex is likely to be the better overall performer. Mike77 |

glad you didn't get ev180 heard you have to tinker with it all the time never is consistent. For the price i have recommended vertex or extreme octopus.
i just can't pull myself to spend 800 bucks or more on a skimmer when you can spend 200-300 bucks and get a good skimmer that gets the job done also.

I am planning on getting the Oceanic Tech Series 120g and stand. I think I am going to buy the Vertex 180. I was just curious if anyone with this tank/stand has this skimmer for it? This will be the first piece for my new tank.
