It's all good buddy, and thanks for the feedback!
I just want to know where people are "setting" their skimmer.
So far, mine isn't showing any head of foam or skimmate yet. Maybe cause my Octo X200 pulled out so much the last day it was in the tank that there isn't too much to skim anyway. Or simply cause it's not "broke in" yet. Let's wait..

I think it is set at where the skimmer riser joins the collection cup. If the level is too high, the foam head won't form. I do not understand why you need the circular baffle hanging from the top of the lid. It can stop the foam from spilling over into the cup.

new moon once it breaks in it will produce, i kept messin with mine cause i can't keep my hands out of tank so when i did foam head would drop down and have to wait for it to come back up, if the inlet tube is sticking into bubble plate chamber that messes with performance cause all the air shooting into that chamber should fill up most of way with air and swirl around in a nice vortex motion. If tube from pump is in to far it disturbs the flow pattern.

Has anyone tried hooking a sicce pump to a Vertex? This may be a good combo if the plumbing fits.

Moon, how long have you had the Vertex breaking in?

My IN100 has produced a lot of good foam last night and skimmate when I checked it this morning. I will post pics of what is in my collection cup when I get home from work today.

Skimmer started to foam, and it's with a stable foam head right now. So far, it's been doing great, taking into consideration is not fully broke in yet and that my tank was previously skimmed by a very good skimmer.

Tang, it" almost" fit. I'm sure one could easily adapt, though. The collection cups on both skimmers(IN 180 and Octo X 200) can be used between them, they fit perfectly each other. Same with the tubes and air silencer.
I would say that if any Octo X 200 owner wanted a "back up" skimmer, this one would be perfect, as they can share many parts.

So far, I like this skimmer. It's VERY quiet, which is a big plus for me. I placed the air silencer from my Octopus on it and now is dead silent. Can't hear anything, really.

Pictures and more details later. So far, so good, it's being doing great!

Yup, I took off the screwing piece that goes in the Sicce outlet (that makes it connect to the Octo), but the Sicce outlet is too small. The IN 1800 inlet is bigger than the Sicce.
You could put some teflon tape around the Sicce, or even use another piece to adapt it. Wouldn't be difficult at all.

Joined the club, I have a IN 100 (75 gal tank) no cup crazing issue, I do have a slight humming sound (put mouse pad under the skimmer) still have a slight humming but much less than the sicce pump on my MSX 160. I too used the air silencer from the MSX works great.
After 3 days getting some steady nice foam, I have my level breaking just under the black part of the collection cup.

Can't wait to get home and check this skimmer out in person! My 180 is awaiting at my doorstep.

Newmoon -Glad to hear your liking it so far, especially coming from the 200

All,

I am working on designing a stand. I have ordered a In250 and wanted to know how much cabinet height I need.

So say it is 30" tall and it sits on a 2" block in the sump so I can run the sump at 10" of water.
I am at a total height of 32" without the head room needed to remove the collection cup.

How much head room do I need to remove the collection cup?

Thanks, John

well I assembled the skimmer today. PA also replied and will be sending me a new collection cup when the new shipment comes in. You really can't beat their customer service and prices in my opinion. Thanks PA!

I have 2 questions (keep in mind this is my first skimmer EVER) :

1)Is the pump supposed to just fit into its pipe kind of snugly, not tight like the rest of the plumbing? Mine doesn't move around or anything just wondering.. It actually stays in place when I lift the skimmer off of the ground so I would assume its all good.

2)What is the valve looking thing on the collection cup for? Is this to dispose of skimmate if there becomes too much in the skimmer? I noticed that in many peoples pictures they do not have a hose on this, why not?

Thanks sorry if questions are dumb.

Here's a quick picture (more later, camera died after I took the 1): Vertex IN100

Evmibo,
Congrats!
And yes for both questions. About the skimmate valve, you can leave the plug in or make it drip to a waste container. I personally like to leave the valve "closed".

So far I'm really liking this skimmer! I can say it easily(even though I don't have an air meter yet) pushes more air than the stock( non mesh-moded, with the PW that comes with it) Octo X200.

There's some other positives I can see, too. The adjustment tube is WAY easier and WAAAAY smoother to adjust on the IN-180. Very easy to precisely adjust it. The foam head seems more stable and "rigid", too. Maybe cause the IN-180 design permits a smoother way to the bubbles to rise and the bubble seems smaller on the IN-180, too. It's also quiter than the Octo X200, even with the air without silencer. I will take more pictures, and even make a video, after it breaks in more.

I hope so. Now if I only had a system to fire it up on (I'm currently living with the soon-to-be in-laws while my fiance and I have our house built). I think I'll run it in the sump for a few days to make sure I'm not a victim of the impeller issue.

Hey Guys,

My questions get burried quickly around here!

How much room do you need above the skimmer to remove the collection cup?

Thanks, John
