I really think the first line of problems were only with the first line of pumps. If you look back a few pages you can see what Jeremy from PA has to say about the first line of pumps compared to the second line.

Thanks for the help.
Here is a pic of someone elses 100. These are the tabs that you need to turn to get the impeller out. It turns counterclockwise and then pulls out. It has an "O" ring so it is snug.

Hope this helps. BTW, I do not have an IN100 so I have a different pump. If anyone else sees a problem, please speak up!

the white dust would be inside where the ceramic impeller shaft is. You need to pull the rubber off the impeller shaft and wash it real good inside where it goes through the magnet. Also might want to check inside the pump where the impeller sits. My new impeller and collection cup are in the mail...Yeah

The magnet and impeller stay together. You just need to remove one of the black rubber endcaps and slide the shaft out. Make sure you don't lose the washer(s) next to the endcaps. Then rinse the shaft and inside of the magnet to remove any dust/shavings.

Jefe said it exactly just remove the rubber endpiece and the ceramic shaft should slide out. I had a bit of trouble getting mine out as it had the shavings in it and I was running it. It subsequently was "locked" in place. That was the day I came home from work to find my skimmer not running...cause the shaft locked up.

Ok thanks, I took the ceramic shaft out and there doesn't seem to be any shavings (this hasn't been run yet). Rinsed everything off anyways and reassembled it, I guess we'll see when the tank starts up soon. Thanks for the help everyone. I got a few more pictures but have to go so maybe I'll put them up later.

These look just like the AquaEuro "rust factory" pumps - Someone pull the top off and look for exposed metal....

It's such a shame that the skimmer works great and have a very nice design(as it pushes the water/air to the top, plus the smooth transition of air to the neck , making for a very stable and big foam head), but comes with such a crappy pump!!
I will wait for my replacement impellar but I don't hold too much faith in these pumps. I may well send it back for a refund.
I looked at the inside of my impellar and there's a metal screw in there! You can clearly see it inside if you look trough the top of the pinwheel. How long until it starts to rust???
If my replacement impellar looks like that I will send it back for a refund. That's not acceptable

Thinking about getting a vertex. I have a 46 gallon tank, could I get by with the IN80 or should I get the IN 100. I found the IN 80 for $128 shipped, it's awfully tempting.

i will wait for euroreef to come out with there new alloy meshwheel impellar and buy one of there pumps used for rs 180 and use it for vertex 180 since skimmer body is pretty much same size and design.

I am still holding out hope for these skimmers. My IN-100 was cheaper than a Coralife skimmer and does a much better job. How much more would they have to add to the cost to add a better pump? If the little screw rusts then I won't have to dose with Iron.

Well so far my pump is holding up just fine. I have it running in my sump for almost a week (no main display to skim as of yet -just trying the pump out). In this time I have also restarted the pump at least 20 times, just to test it out. So far, so good; dead silent and flawless operation. I did wash it out really well per Jeremy's recommendations, so I don't know if that has helped me so far. Now I can't say for sure how well it skims since I have nothing TO skim, but it certainly does look like it will perform extremely well.

Unhappy

Well guys, after reading all the posts about the performance of this skimmers, I decided take the risk and give it a try, I order the IN 80 for my 50 gallon tank, it went to a vinegar bath Tuesday night and the next morning the pump had stop, after taking the pomp apart and cleaned the impeller and shaft and putting the pump back together, it started making this loud and humming sound. Called MD for a RMA# it's going back. I'm getting a BM100 instead, it should be here on the 26th. Wish me luck with this one!

Sorry to hear about the troubles. Good luck with the BM100. They have pump problems too I believe.

I'm sure MD could have replaced the pump free of charge. A lot of the early pumps have had troubles but been replaced with new ones that work.

My plan is pretty much the same, only user an RS135 pump on my IN100

Thanx! EvMiBo, yes the BM100 has had some pump problems as well, but the main reason why I decided to go with it, is the foot print and the second version impeller and shaft of the pump, which is supposed to be more strong. the IN 80 is a nice skimmer and I was willing to modify the baffles in my sump to make it fit because my skimmer chamber is only 6 3/4" wide and the vertex needs 8" , but after the pump stop after 6-8 hours I was not happy and decided not to keep it and get the BM100 instead and with the BM I don't need to modify my sump since this skimmer should fit right in and if there is any pump issues (I hope not) I expect very good customer serve and support from Chris.

Would this pump replace the one for the IN100. Mine is still working fine but I want to know other options.
