Hey just to keep you posted my abnormal humming noise from my IN-100 is cool, i found the pump rested ackwardly against some egg create- it's still kicking, but i'll still be intreseted in switching out the pump down the road. the skimmate is still steady and nasty!

I bought it from PA. Jeremy is sending me a replacement impeller. I'll try that out and see how it goes.

JME .. This is my analogy of the IN -100

Just like as Hyundai . Great warranty but stays broke all the time .

I have a 30g tank ( some live rock and 2 clown fish ) with IN 100. I can never get the dry foam from my skimmer no matter how I adjust it. Is it because the skimmer hasn't break in yet or just because there is not much stuff to skim?

My sump water level is 7" and the skimmer has been running form 3 weeks.
SG 1.025
Temp 80.

Hello All,

Well I received my IN80 this Monday. It was purchased for my 40 gallon cube. I know this skimmer is a bit over sized for my system, but I could not bring myself to spend more $$ on some of the crap nano skimmers that I researched. The skimmer was purchased though PA, at a very good price, for a skimmer with all the features (bubble plate, cup drains, pinwheel, massive air intake) normally reserved for the larger high priced equipment out there . I am totally impressed with the quality of construction. I would have liked to see a better quality pump, but time will tell on this Resun 2.

The skimmer has been running 24x7 in a vinegar solution since Monday evening, no problems to report. The unit operates very quietly with the only noticeable noise coming from the air intake tubing, this noise level will not be noticeable once the unit is in the sump. So far the pump has been rock solid with no noticeable vibration or noise. I did do an initial disassemble to verify that the impeller and magnet was clean ready to go.

I will pull some SCFM readings this weekend and see how the impeller/pinwheel is doing. I did check the current draw and it was only drawing 14 watts at full load, according to my Fluke 787.

It's an old Dwyer RMB type airflow meter salvaged from a purged junction box installation. You can look at model #RMB-53-SSV at the Dwyer website if your interested. I've also seen these on ebay occasionally for 10 to 15 bucks.

OK, I went and picked it up and they already had it assembled for me, brought it home and put it in the sump, this skimmer is amazing, it started producing skimmate in about 15 mins. in a 58g oceanic with 50# of new sand and 20# of LR, it is quiet, seems to pull tons of air, so far am very impressed

I have been running my in180 for 2 days now and it is not producing anything. The foam in the skimmer neck seems to be very turbulent which seems to be making it run in-efficiently.

Any ideas what could cause this? or am I the only one that has to wait for this skimmer to break in before it starts producing??

The first day or so with a skimmer may or may not produce much foam. Not sure why it isn't producing. Are you running carbon at the same time? Mine seems to skim better when I have my carbon bag in my sump. Also where is the water level in your sump? Did you turn the output to the side and remove the output tube that points down? This tends to make it a little more efficient. There are some pictures of this in some prvios posts in this thread. My IN100 already has another 1/2 inch of dark skimmate in the collection cup and I just emptied it two days ago... I skim a little on the wet side. My water level in the neck is about an inch above the ring where the collection cup detaches. Good luck.

I think he's referring to the water level in the sump itself, not the skimmer. There were a few posts earlier in the thread that made reference to the fact the foam head seems to be more stable if the outlet pipe is not fully submerged under the water line of the sump.

What kind of manner is that to reply to someone that is simply trying to help you out., I know you are frustrated but don't be a jerk to someone and swear to someone that is simply trying to help you.... I thought I was clear let mw break it down a bit. After you feed the fish or put your hand in the tank it typically breaks the foam head down of your skimmer. The water level where it breaks it down to is where I was referring to. To get my skimmers performance better I kep this level at about 1" above the black ring where the cup mounts to the main skimmer body. Also the water level within the sump should be at 7" for optimum performance. Read the thread from the begininning and you will see what I am talking about.

Just picked up an in-80 for my 50 gallon LPS tank, very excited to see how much gunk gets pulled. This thread was the little nudge over the edge for me deciding to get a Vertex...woo!
