Checking compatibility
Well I am planning my tank equipment based on what I want to keep. There are some stuff that unfortunately I can't change so who the habitants of my tank will be, will be determined by them.
These are the parameters I cant change: Tank 80gallons Height 24 inches. Lighting 8x54watt Initially I'll just have 4x54 watt of lighting so thats 216 watts. I was wondering what I can keep with 216 and what with 432. What I would like are: a pair of clown fish (probably false percula) a yellow tang (i know 75 gallons are the minimum. will the pair of clowns affect the required gallon for this fish? i only have 80) a diamond goby or other sand shifter. Bubble coral Leather coral or anemone or something that the clowns can host(if they host nowdays that are not wildcaught) A good looking clam. Some acroporas and other SPS. From what I know its not good to have a leather coral with other SPS. Bubble coral is aggresive and also not a good mix with a leather coral. SPS and clams require lots of light which I won't have initially Anemones dont do well in high flow and SPS require high flow. So what can I put in a tank from the list above that will be compatible? For those that cannot be added do you have a suggestion for something to replace them? |

What would those things be? I have seen anemones w/ sps (and just about every other type of corarl).... however your running the risk of the nem moving and wiping them (and pretty much any other coral) out. The clowns will also host corals like frogspawn, hammers, and sometimes even some mushrooms just to name a few. |

Sorry I missed that part ...
It is possible to get the nem and let it settle in.... but sometimes they still will move for whatever reason down the road, not always, but sometimes. The tang should be fine w/ your fish stocking list. |

As far as lighting, with 216 watts you might be able to get away with a few SPS up high...definitely should be alright with 432 watts.
Fish list looks OK. The goby might be more challenging at first and may bury any clams or corals that you put on the sand (not a problem if you don't mind redecorating). With the corals...the bubble is very aggressive and sends out sweeper tentacles at night. You will want to give it some space. Leathers can sometimes give off chemicals that are harmful to SPS (carbon in a reactor can remove this potential problem). Anemones have the potential to move around the aquarium and sting corals, but you should be able to find a place in a SPS tank with low enough flow to house one. Eric

BTA's are less aggressive and smaller than a carpet.
