Jimbo,
My IN-80 is running in a 40 gallon cube, it is doing a wonderful job handling a moderate to heavy bio-load. If you are tight on space, I think the IN'-80 will get the job done for you. Mark Quote:

Hey Mark,
Thanks so you think the IN-100 will be overkill? I also noticed the hight on the IN80 is 21.5 how much room do you need to remove the cup |

Jhoff,
I think the the IN-80 is overkill in my forty. But, if you have the space and the extra cash, I'd plan on the future, I know, I will be building a 150 down the road. I had space issues in my cabinet, so the 100 was out of the question for this tank. You probably need at least 4 inches minimum to remove the cup, yes you could remove it in less space but it would be a bi-weekly pain in the arse. Mark Quote:

Ok my mind is made up going with the IN-80. A bigger tank is a long long way down the road plus i can use the extra cash for my new T5 36" 4 x 39w powermodule Thanks for your input Jim |

Hi guys. Looks like this is the way to go! I was going to buy another brand of skimmer but most of you had other types of skimmers and this one blew them all away! now the question is should i get the gen 1 for $150 or the gen 2 for $200 (model in100) from premium aquatics? I guess the answer will be gen2 correct? thank you for all the research the previous owners have made!

nano- either one will be fine. if you need the extra $50 get the gen1 you won't be upset (I love mine). all the kinks are out and premiumaquatics has great customer service. the gen2 may pull slightly more air but don't know for sure.

Try PM'ing Jeremy, he's probably one of the few that know since they're so new.

MAJOR IN-250 ISSUES
I have this thing in at a depth of 7.25 - 7.5". I have the valve fully open but it still produces very wet bubbles that fill the collection cup in about 15 minutes.
It was working fine until I stocked my tank. I had it in my LR tank and it worked great. I have no more room to raise it and the sump is baffled. At this point I am ready to chuck it. It is turned off and my tank is running without a skimmer. Any suggestions????? |

It appears that my recent work with my corals (I moved 30+ colonies into this tank in the past week) has caused the skimmer to go crazy! John |

It should not over flow if you have the outlet all the way open.
Raise the skimmer by putting a layer or two or three of egg crate under the skimmer. Or you can increase the air draw of the pump. Do you have pics of it overflowing?

What happens is that the bubble chamber fills up and comes into the collection cup filling it up. It then pushes the top off and comes down the side. The skimmate is almost clear. It overflowed back into the sump. How do you increase the air draw? I have the hose fully out of the water. John |

You definitely want to keep your exit pipe out of water, or drill a half in hole the top of the 90 so pressure can be released. Have you checked your venturi/air hose is clear? If it is clogged, you will pull less air and more water, thus overflow the skimmer. Which model skimmer do you have so I can see a pic of it? Is it the IN 250?

water additives can make skimmer go nuts, like chlorine removers, water clarifiers, even if you feed everyday some foods frozen or pellets can make skimmer got nuts. If not that i think tangtang could be right air hole could be clogged.

I did epoxy a lot of corals to rocks in the past 2 days which of course ****ed the corals off and they slimed out. Jeremy from PremiumAquatics thinks that is what happened. I plan (when I get home from work) to put a line on the drain and run the skimmer into a 5g bucket and see if it clears itself. It was running fine in this system at this depth for about 2 weeks until last night. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions. John |

John,
Just looked at the epoxy directions it said use of large quantities will temporarily cause protein skimmer to foam excessively turn off skimmer 36 hours after use. Hope this is the problem Jimbo |
