I used it years ago in my freshwater tanks. It is abundant on my deer lease (for free
 ). IMO it is very dense and won't give you the surface area for bacterial growth that porous live rock provides.

Wow thats cool. We have someting similar to this in utah called lake bonneville tufa rock that reefers ( myself included) have been putting in their tanks for years without any ill effects.

If this is the same stuff I read about a while back it should be good. . I remember reading TX. has one of the oldest ancient reefs in the world. But dont quote me on that

I take care of a tank that has the stuff in it. Tank is doing great now 1 year in. completely corraline covered and some really interesting shapes. He switched from fw over to sw and probably saved himself close to $500 by not getting live rock. If anything it provides a good base. A good 50% of your $6+ lb live rock is not even visible.

i always thought that this stuff gives off a lot of alk(its limestone), while it probably would be fine for FO, i wouldn't add this to my reef.
