HELP please =[
ok, idk if i'm over reacting or not, but today i got 2 clowns from petco (worst place ever, i know) but after i finished acclimating them and i put them in the aquarium they looked great, swimming and checking out the aquarium, i even fed them a bit and they chowed it down. well i went out for a couple hours feeling great cuz i now got some lil fishys, and when i got back home they were swimming around the top corner of my aquarium!! am i over reacting or should i just give it time and let my clowns adjust. i prob should be posting this in the clown & anemones forum, but i always seem to get a quick answer here
(tank parameters are fine) everything zero expect pH is like 8.0...... any help would be much appreciated guys!! thanks.

I don't think you should worry, clown fish are wierd man. Give it some time and they will probably be back to normal. Just my $0.02
Edit: I hope you didn't dump the petco water in your tank, they have been known to use copper in their tanks which can/will kill your inverts |

If you didn't turn your pumps off to take that pic, you might get some surface agitation going. Could be low oxygen. Looked really calm in the pic.

IMO nothing to be concerned about.
My clowns do the same thing for a while and then go back to swimming around. BTW you may want to consider a QT. It will save you alot of headaches down the road. |

Are the pumps off in that picture or is there really that little surface agitation?

You dont need bubbles just make sure the surface is getting some flow. My clown fish usually hang out in the top left corner when they think its dinner time because thats where I feed them from.

I bought my clowns from Petco about 9 months ago. They're the only fish worth buying there, imo. Very hearty 'cause they're tank-bred.
They are fine, just not used to their surroundings yet. |

well thanks guys! its the second day and they seem to be doing great now! thanks for being for me in my time of need! haha. another quick question. i took my pump director or w.e it is off so there was more surface flow and its creating alot of tiny bubbles (micro bubbles i'm guessing) is this bad?

You may want to check the back chamber and make sure there is enough water where the pump is. When's the last time you topped off?

not to long ago actually... i really dont have alot of evaporation tho.. but if i have the tube extension on. then there is no bubbles really. but there would be no great surface flow. whats so bad about micro bubbles anyway? never really found out...

It's an eye sore. I have them because of my HOB skimmer and wish that 3 years ago I'd have boughten a proper stand where I could have a sump!

oh btw guys, the clowns are doing great during the day. actively swimming and what not... but at night, they swim back to the surface at the back of my tank, doing the whole "sideways things... i know they find a place at night to sleep, but i have caves i've made with my LR and they haven't even been near them yet... don't they usually wanna stay hidden? not on the surface? lol
p.s. Am i totally over reacting? haha its really only the 3rd day i've had them...

thats what they do, mine are the same way, they will usually go to the same spot every night and just sleep there, sometimes a little to close to my over flow but havent gone down it yet

They probably are just looking for food, clownfish are pigs. Youa re definately overreacting about them. They are gonna do what they want to do.
By "eye sore" he meant the microbubbles are just ugly. Its much better too look at a nice clear tank than a tank full of microbubbles. They can cause problems with some corals but other than that they are just ugly. I dont understand when you say you took the director off, do you have a pic? |

i can take one yes.. to late now tho. but i'll try to explain. i have the AP 24g and the pump is in the back compartment. it has a tube leading to a hole which there the water comes out of. well on that hole i "had" the director on it, but there seemed to not be enough surface flow from what you guys were saying.... so i took the director off and its just the hole spitting out water. (much faster than when the directors were on it)
haha true, clowns are pigs. but there soooo sweet. lol

AHH i understand I think, it was deflecting the water a certain way. SO there seems to be microbubbles comming out now that is id off? If the bubbles were being pushed through the pump they should be comming out with or without the director. Is there a way to put the director on but face it slightly up to aggitate the surface of the water?
I assume this pump is in your sump? Is there anything in the sump that stops the mircobubbles from getting to the pump? OR is this pump just a powerhead? |

correct! i was considering putting the director on but face it slightly up to agitate the surface of the water but i'm not sure how high? between micro bubbles and good surface agitation sound good?? and its just a powerhead its the only thing i have right now considering my tank is still new (2 months)but i'm gonna get a koraila 2 soon! i currently do NOT have a sump tho BUT i do have a useless 10g aquarium sitting around so that might change
