Kalk mixing
I have dosed kalk as my topoff for quite sometime. I have never really had the water be clear before use. I am wondering if there is a correct and incorrect way to mix it. I have started to use vinegar with my kalk solution to help dissolve it but still have never had the water clear before using....
anyone?? |

I use a kalk reactor and my controller will run the mixer for about a minute every hour so it's never clear before use. No issue with dosing freshly mixed kalk just don't dump a lot in at once.

You should let it settle until the main volume of liquid is clear. You should end up with a small layer of undissolved solids at the bottom, even with vinegar. IME

You don't necessarily get undissolved solids in a reactor, but you do in a still reservoir if you mix at saturation+. Either method works wonderfully for delivering kalk.

What type of kalk are you using and how long do you let it settle after mixing?

I don't recall what brand I'm using but when I mix kalk and let it sit overnight I end up with precip on the bottom and a crust on the surface. Once the surface is skimmed the bucket is very clear all the way down to about 2-3" off the bottom.
