Here is a problem I have been dealing with recently. I finally got a replacement Labouti wrasse but it developed a swim bladder problem. It can not keep itself upright. This video was early on but it has gotten worse. Pretty much upside down and pinned to the top of the breeder box now. I feel terrible for the poor guy.

Hmm.. a quick serach yields a couple of things that your fish prob don't have.. according to the info it could be a malformed bladder (It would have been swimming oddly from the start, so I doubt this applies to you), cancer or other disease next to the bladder that is deforming the bladder (Could be but I am sure the fish would have shown other forms of stress before this), poor nutrition (I doubt this applies to you), constipation (Have you seen it poop lately?), or some serious bacterial or parasitic infection (Most likely culprit), or massive temp swings (Doubt this too).
The solution says to feed it live food to make sure it eats well, make sure it's pooping, and that the temp is stable. I didn't see any medications that targets the problem specifically though... HTH

Bugger, I'm thinking infection of some sort... more bacterial than parasitic. You could try a broad spectrum anti-biotic, unfortunately aside from that you'll need to destroy the fish according to the info I'm reading.

Sorry to hear
Hopefully your next one will be in better shape. I've never been great at keeping my interest with fish, and worse yet is that I let my wife pick'em. Naturally her favorite fish are damsels... she always picks the aggressive ones!

will....didn't read thru your whole build thread, but i saw the 4th pic you posted in the "see under your stand" thread & i am interested in the louvers in the lower front corner of the stand.
i assume those are to allow air to come into the sump area?? are they regular old AC register covers?? do you get much light creep out of them?? i'm considering putting one of these in the bottom of each of my side doors w/ a pc fan behind them pulling air inward. thoughts?? suggestions?? i need to go back over the thread, cause this was one of the ones i started reading when beginning the planning stages of mine awhile ago

ahh...my sump area is completely enclosed (as seen in my build thread), but looking for a way to get some air in there w/ minimal light creep.
i found a 4x10 register cover that i think i'm gonna put on the lower part of the door opposite the refugium end of the sump & put (1-2) 120mm pc fans (which i have a buttload of left over from an ebay bulk auction LOL) blowing inward. then the other side will just be a vent w/ no fan i plan on putting a 6" desktop clip-on fan on the sump....just looking to get fresh air into the area w/ these vents

Does someone have a link to the "under the stand" thread you guys are talking about? I'm designing the layout of my 120g stand and would like to look at what some other people have done!

I originally started with 2 x visitherm stealth 250w but believe it or not, they both failed on me. Now I am usung 2 x jager ts-200w's. Been working great. I like the indicator light so you know they 3e working. The stealth's don't have that. |

And here is a recent shot of the flame. I am really surprised at how well it has transitioned to male in the absence of a female.

Great tank! Just finished reading the whole thread and I want to second the earlier comment about how nice it is to see a build/update thread that actually includes the bad with the good. Its reassuring to read about beautiful tanks that work through algae problems, acro pests, fish deaths, ich, etc. Your tank is pretty much what I'm shooting for when I get the cash to return to this hobby: 4' tank, T5 lighting, vortechs and lots of wrasses
Couple of quick questions. I take it the radiant survived that wound from the Kole? Does he have a scar and how well did it heal? Do you think the extra 6" of front to back would have been worth going for a 120 or are you pretty happy with the 90?

Fish are more expensive over here, but not by too much. Invertebrate are the killer! In Australia, we can't import invertebrate, therefore it all has to be Australian collected, so it is RIDICULOUSLY expensive! Snails are expensive, Anemones are expensive, skunk cleaner shrimp are $100+ Also, equipment is quite a bit more expensive over here, due to the fact that most of it comes from the States...
